The hospital that I delivered at holds a breastfeeding support group twice a week. It is on the maternity floor and I LOVE LOVE LOVE going up there because my experience was so wonderful and I like to see the nurses and show off my babe. And I think the LC that leads the group is great (I remember so vividly her bringing Abe down to recovery to show us how to nurse). The best group is on Wednesday afternoons because it is very calm and relaxed. The evening group is packed and wild.
So. I've decided that the first Wednesday of every month I'm going to take the afternoon off, get Abe from school and go to the group. Then go home and play.
I'm really excited!
Re: My Monthly Treat to Myself
I think it's awesome that your hospital holds these support groups! I remember how frustrated my sister was with her first child-- my niece didn't start breastfeeding well until my sister had tried everything and given up (of course). A support group would have been so helpful!
And then you get to play with Abe early, too, so double-bonus!
I've found that I can actually offer advice and help people in some situations! And that makes me feel really really really good. OH. And they weigh Abe and I like to see how much weight he gains...my healthy boy.
Sounds like a fabulous treat, and I'm extra quality time for you and Abe to boot! I noticed that MidCoast hosts a similar program with their LCs, and I definitely want to take advantage of it while we're still up in Maine. Hope you have a great time!

I can TOTALLY see you being very helpful in a very encouraging way-- you're good like that!
So how IS Abe weighing in these days?
When I went to the group last week he was 14lbs 3oz. So. I suspect he weighs about 14lbs 10oz or so...maybe even over 15lbs because he has been eating NONSTOP. We went to Portland last weekend and he ate every hour and a half. Normally on a outing like that he sleeps the whole time.
That's an awesome plan! I really enjoyed the support group from MMC. It wasn't at the hospital but I did get to go back to MMC for a few one on one sessions and to just stop in and visit Skye. Was fun, we actually ran into a nurse that cared for Caroline in the NICU. I didn't get to meet any of her NICU nurses so that was neat.
Abe is a growing boy, huh?! Pretty soon he's going to pass Caroline and Abby the peanut by

Dang, Brianne-- by the time I finally get to meet Abe in person, he'll no longer be a little baby!
Way to go, Mom!
