Dinner Plates

Okay so this may seem a little obvious, but not so much to me.  My husband and I have been looking for a good set of dinner plates that are nice, sturdy and have some detail to them.  We have looked all over since before the wedding and found nothing.  We want something that will last for a long time.  Do you ladies have any suggestions?  Where did you find your dinner plates?

Re: Dinner Plates

  • We opted not to register for china since we have sets on both sides of our families that we'll eventually get.

We registered for our dishware from Crate and Barrel, and use it everyday and when we have people over.  We really like it!

Another interesting tip:  we opted for light blue dishware b/c my friend who's an interior designer said that light blue for whatever reason causes you to eat less.  You're supposed to avoid red in the kitchen for the opposite reason.

We actually had red dishes picked out until we found an article that confirms this!

  • bed bath and beyond has some nice everyday use plates, as well as you can check out like a home good store, we picked ours up at walmart, when hubby and i moved in together  he had a set of four, and I really liked them so i wanted another set to make 8, he has had "his 4" for about a good 5 or 6 years and there holding up great.

  • Picking out dinnerware was so hard for us!  I couldn't decide whether to get something modern & somewhat trendy and change it out in a few years or get some nice china that I would keep for a long time.  I settled somewhere in the middle.

What are you looking for?  Lifetime dishes or just some casual everyday stuff you plan to replace?

  • We have fiestaware which I love. But I love brightly colored dishes! We ended up getting it on sale on black friday for crazy cheap at Kohls.

  • We got ours at bed Bath and Beyond.  They has a ton to pick from, all colors and styles.

We chose the Nova Brown.  The dishes are large enough to be useful for any appetite but small enough not to be obnoxious on a dinner table, the bowls are large but shallow so I LOVE them!

  • We got our plates from Bed, Bath, and Beyond too. The Fusion Wasabi set. We like them pretty well.

When my husband and I registered at Bed Bath and Beyond we liked the New Wave for a casual everyday set and the Mikasa Love Story for our formal set.  Well after looking at the prices we decided to only keep one set and went with the Mikasa Love Story.  No one bought any so now we are deciding what to do.  We cannot reasonably afford $50 per setting (we want at least 8) plus the matching bowls, platter, etc.  We have looked at Walmart (I have no idea what Homegoods is...) and Target and still have not had much luck.  We want lifetime dishes preferably.  Some of the newer stuff we have seen has too much embellishment on it and then others have none which is fine, but we are trying to be careful and not get anything too plain.  Who knew picking out china could be so difficult?

  • I have to 2nd Fiestaware.  They don't really have "detail" but you can get just about any color you want, or you can mix and match colors.

  • We got a set similar to Hannah's set but ours was from BB&B. We have yet to use them(awaiting our move that isn't even in the works yet haha)- but they got great reviews.

Our roommate has Fiestaware she bought them in all the colors. They actually make me want to put the dishes away. haha.
