Who eats Thai food?

I'm meeting some girlfriends tonight and we're getting Thai for dinner. I've never had Thai food so anyone have any suggestions on what to get? Something not too spicy since I've got the worst hearburn already. This baby is going to come out with an afro I swear, lol.

Re: Who eats Thai food?

  • i always get pad thai with tofu but a lot of thai food is spicy. you might want to ask the waiter for suggestions or maybe they can prepare it with less spice.

I'm not a huge Thai fan, because most of it contains peanuts and I just don't like nuts in savory dishes, but when I'm outvoted and have to go I'll usually get the panfried ginger noodles with pork.

  • I really love Pad Thai and Tom Yum Pak (sp?).
  • Love Thai food!  You can usually request any dish to be served mild instead of spicy.  Recommend: pad thai, pad woon sen (glass noodle dish), green papaya salad (if it's available), panang curry (peanut sauce), angel wings, tom yum soup.  One of my favorites is yum nua (beef salad), but not everyone likes beef that isn't temperature hot.
  • I have tried one dish from a local Thai restaurant called Crispy Chicken Fried Rice.  I don't know how traditional the meal is but it's not spicy and it's really enjoyable. This is probably no help to you though.

Also, I assume the meal will be made fresh to order so I'm sure you'll be able to customize the spice.

  • You can almost always specify the amount of spice - just ask for mild.

I usually get Thai Fried Rice, Pad Thai, Massaman Curry (it's peanut-y), Swimming Rama (peanut sauce on top of meat/veggies on top of spinach), or Drunken Noodles.

Yum!  I really wish there was a good thai place around here for lunch!

  • Jess, MMMMM teak or lemongrass. yum yum yum. I wish they were closer.

Pad Thai is one of my favorite things in the world. Most restaurants will let you specifiy on a scale of 1-10 how spicy you want it. Everything is cooked to order so it is great to be able to specify spice. I almost cried trying my husband's curry once but he loved it. Good times. :)

  • Pad Thai is always delicious, and you can tell your server that you get heartburn and sometimes they'll even have a Thai remedy for it. I also really love Pumpkin Curry over white rice. If you are drinking caffeine Thai tea is amazing. Enjoy!
