Challenger

Today is the 25th anniversary of the Challenger disaster. Do any of you remember it? I was only 4, so I don't remember much. My mom works at an elementary school and she said none of the kids have even heard of it. We are having a big memorial at work today.

Re: Challenger

  • I don't remember it because I was um... 6 months old? However, my mom is huge into NASA and space related things, so I grew up hearing about it, and was Christa McAuliffe (sp?) for a biography presentation day in 6th grade, so we spent a lot of time reading about it and watching movies for my presentation.

I got to wrap a baseball helmet in foil and wear an awesome jump suit for my presentation.

  • I vaguely remember it. It was such a sad day! We have 2 schools in MD named after McAuliffe and McNair.

It's pretty sad kids today aren't taught American History like this.

  • Yes, completely remember it.  It's one of those moments that I can remember vividly and don't think I'll ever forget, similarly to where I was and what I was doing when I first heard about 9/11 and Princess Di's death.

I was in 5th grade and we were watching the launch on tv.  I remember when the tragedy occurred our teacher Ms. Hauser got this pained and confused expression on her face.  She kind of looked up at the tv and left the room for a sec to talk to another teacher.  I think we were all trying to figure out what exactly happened....maybe in shock, who knows.  She came back in and I think we had some discussion about it or something with said over the PA system....maybe both.

  • I was 7 years old, but I don't remember details like where I was or what I was doing when I heard about it.  I think I had a mind sweep at some point because it's weird that I don't remember much from my childhood.

  • I was in the 4th grade. I remember that it was super cold in Florida. I think that it even was the week that it snowed here. I remember that there were only a handful of kids in the class that day. We watched it on t.v. in the classroom.

  • I was 16 months old & living in Kansas... So no recollection of the Challenger events.

  • I can remember doing a project about the event in 3rd grade shortly after it happened. I think my mom still has it.

  • I don't remember it, but my grammar school had a big plaque about it in the main hallway. A special-education teacher from the school was a finalist in the selection process for who would go, so I think it just creeped everyone out even moreso than the general public.

  • I was just over a year old so I don't remember it. I did grow up hearing about the event.

  • Yes, we were watching it in "enrichment" class and were confused, like maybe it was supposed to do that, then realized, no, it wasn't. It was terrible. I think that probably has something to do with the fact that I cry every time the shuttle takes off and lands, even now.
