Re: FFFC/AWF

  • We are going to Dallas today to spend the weekend with BIL and SIL. BIL just called and said when we get into town to come by his resturant that he works at and we can eat on the house. I'm very excited because I've been craving some awesome cajun food for a long time.

I'm about to hide my SIL's posts on FB. She is a holier than thou type of person. She recently discovered cloth diapering when she had her son. Disclaimer: There is nothing wrong with CD. I would love to do it with our next one. But she feels like she has to post PSA's about how dangerous disposable diapers are. I might be taking it too personally since we still use diposables but it really is all. the. time. It's also other factors like her passive agressive way that she comments on other peoples' statues. But that's a whole other story.

  • FFC: Work is so boring today! We're really slow and I have nothing to do. I could (and probably should) go find something to do, but I don't really want to. So I've been pretending to work.

AW: DH and I started a new eating plan. We've basically cut way back on processed foods. I've lost 4 pounds over the last week! I was at a point where I couldn't seem to get below a certain point, and now I'm 3 pounds below that point!

  • FFFC: I wish people would quit taking threads to other boards so everyone can get a good laugh at the original poster. I recognize that this is a public message board, but I really can't understand the need to be hateful. (The flame-worthy part is that I'm discounting my post where I linked to Jenelle's foolish dancing.)

AW: My blood pressure is now in the "low" zone due to our working out. :D

  • My DH seems to think that I spend my days holding a sleeping baby.  Last night he was less than helpful and totally not interested in either of us.  I am ready to go back to marriage counseling...  I miss it!
  • I've lost more than 2 pounds this week...only five away from my target and ten from what I'm really wanting in terms of weight loss. :)

Bigger AW: my dad made it back safe from Afghanistan a day early. He and my mom surprised me earlier this afternoon. I am SO relieved.

My FFC: I'm so bored at work that, after I finish my obligated stuff, I'll probably read the rest of the afternoon. I hope it goes by fast.

I think I know what you are refering to.  What really makes my blood boil about this particular incident (and we aren't refering to the C&P some douche did on Monday) is that because the OP made a "mistake" that does not mean she is stupid or bad at her job. What it does mean is that the person who decided to mock the OP on the other board better damn well be absolutely, positively PERFECT all of the fvcking time.

I saw it too.  I thought it was really shitty.  And really, I should have just put a thumbs up symbol to this to show that I agree.  That's apparently the cool thing to do. YesYesYes

  • AW: DH and I just booked a 7 night vacation to an all-inclusive resort in Riviera Maya for this June.  I am SO flippin' excited.  :)  Also, my parents and my little sister are coming too as her "graduation" present.  I honestly can't wait-- my family has NEVER gone on a vacation together (if you don't count places like Branson, lol).

Also, we are going to the Thunder game tonight FO FREE... Thanks Chesapeake.  :)

FFFC:  Some of my friends are SO negative.  All they do is b*tch about their husbands and it is completely toxic... To the point that I'm thinking of limiting the amount that I hang out with them, because all they do is look at me to divuldge my complaints as well.  Ladies, if you keep disrespecting him to other women, all he is ever going to do is prove you right.

  • I thought of another confession (actually it's more of a complaint/annoyance).

I'm taking a French class online this semester. My teacher just emailed me saying she's worried because I haven't started the lesson that's due Sunday. She said I need to be studying at least 2 hours every day. Seriously? Who the heck has time to study 2 hours a day for one class (besides college kids who don't have jobs)? That's why I'm taking it online! I'm working full time and going to school full time. I do not have that much time to spend on a freshman level class, sheesh. I know she just wants me to do well in the class, but that really ticked me off! That's why I loved OCCC so much, they understood that not everyone is going to college on their parents' money. It just seems like OU expects every student to have school as their only priority/responsibility.

    Rant over.

  • AW: I had a great day in Cushing, of all places, shooting the breeze with other band directors, picking their brains, and watching some great rehearsals. And my student complimented my teaching, which was really sweet.

FFFC: I love the drama today. It's all "we can't say what it's really about" or call anyone out, but we are supposed to ignore the fact that the post that started it all was not only over-the-top, but that it was deleted, followed by defensiveness, instead of just saying, oops, my bad, I made a math error, thanks for the help.

My life is so undramatic that it is nice to come here and wallow in the semi-crazy. Cool

    Yes

Who knows. Maybe I'll delete this just in the spirit of things.

  • Kayleeb- the board of regents sets that guideline, not your individual professors. They tell us how many  hours of work to assign/week. I know it's a lot, but in my experience, students like you (who have other responsibilities) are much better at doing well in demanding classes than students who have no jobs, no responsibilities, etc.

My AW: My research has gotten some cool exposure lately and it's started snowballing. I hope it keeps going!

  • I'll save the FFFC and give my AW:  Thanks to some research and making a bazillion phone calls, we're switching insurance companies and saving ourselves $25/month on auto insurance and $150/year on our house insurance (compared to previous years).  Compared to the 58% increase we had on our house insurance this year, we're saving $1,050.  Yessss!!

Yeah, I always thought it was like 2 hours of study for every hour you are enrolled in, or something like that. Maybe that was just instrument practice.

The offiical party line  is 2-3 hrs/week for every hour you're in class (so, normally, 6-9 hours for a 3 credit hour class.) That's why most people don't/can't complete college. If it was easy, everyone would do it :)

Hahahaha if only I had actually done that, I would have made A's. Wait, I did make A's. Wink I never felt like my classes needed all that much work outside of class, at least not in undergrad. Graduate work, well, it's a little more time-consuming. Not harder, so much...just painfully time consuming!

Yeah, I don't remember ever doing that for most classes, but looking at it from the other side, more people definitely should! :)

  • For a foreign language, given how quickly OU's foreign language classes go, I would study the amount of time they suggest.  Kaylee, do you have to go to a language lab? I think those were the most helpful. I know it is a lot of work (I went to school full-time and worked full-time as well) but when you get that A you will be happy.

Well, I took 2 years of French in high school. And I know how the class is set up, it's just one lesson a week, a test after every 2 lessons. And I took beginning french last semester and easily made an A. So I'm not really too worried about making a good grade. I'm sure it would be better if I could study 2 hours a day for the class, but then I wouldn't have much time to study for my other classes which are 3000 level classes.

  • Kaylee and TJ, I think I may have something to do with the drama but I'm not for sure. In the UO thread I posted a work vent, which I later dd. However, in my defense I said from the get go that I may dd. I made a mistake in the work vent I posted. I c&p the whole string of emails and was worried about getting names and everyone's email addresses out of the post. I wasn't paying attention to the math and pasted wrong numbers. I posted other people's numbers, got them mixed up etc. My mistake. Jenn pointed it out so I dd and posted with the correct numbers. Then, I decided later that I had received enough great advice and dd again because I was afraid that it was just too personal; work related. Inevitably this will turn into a drama fest lol because no one is allowed to make mistakes, right? I'm thinking the above mentioned post got c&p to another board. We can discuss that later. Good night!
