How's YH's job search going? What sort of jobs is he looking for? Are you planning to go back to work if he can't find anything? Sorry if I'm prying, just wondering how it's going!

Re: Kellie

  • Thanks for thinking about us :)

The search isnt good (and isnt good for my brother or my Dad).  He's looking for something in the finance field.  Jobs here are slim, and what is open in the finance field are either he's too qualified (they only want HS grads) or he's under qualified (they want 2 plus years experience).  He has sent out countless resumes, and re tweaked it continuously but nothing ever pans out :(

My Dad is in the auto industry/managing, and my brother has a music/teaching degree.  Jobs just arent open here.  I know so many people that are unemployed right now here.

Our plans are to start TTC as soon as he finds a job, so I wont be looking for anything unless we are in dire need (which its getting close to that).  We are lucky to already own our home though, so we dont have any worries about that.

    And you arent prying! :)

  • I'm sorry to hear that. Have they thought about getting jobs that aren't in their fields? If there's nothing out there, that might be the only option. I also have a music degree and a minor and masters in Education but I know how hard it is to find jobs in those fields! I'm glad you don't live in CA - the unemployment rate here is terrible - that's why I'm thankful to have my job, much as it sucks.
  • My brother tries to get sub jobs, but those are slim.  My Dad couldnt start a new career, he's over 50 and I dont think he even has a HS diploma so he has to stick with what he knows (and who he knows) in order to find anything.  We thought he had something over Christmas but he never got called again for it.  As for DH he has looked for anything he is qualified for.  I guess employers are extremely picky (and they can be in this economy).  The Ohio unemployment rate is over 9%, and just think that doesnt include people who arent eligible for unemployment, like my brother & my DH.  We just keep trucking along and hope soon they all will find work.
  • Yeah subbing is really hard to do these days I've heard because they're laying off all the teachers and they get the sub jobs first.

Are employers like Starbucks, Traget etc. just as picky? I know it's nothing like their field or will pay nearly as well, but if it's the only option out there it could be worth a shot. They have really good benefits!

Not trying to be nosey but just curious how you manage to not have a mortgage?! And how are you able to make ends meet if YH doesn't qualify for unemployment?

I really hope things look up for you guys!

  • I sent you a PM :)
