What are doing for hubby for Valentine's Day?

I know I'm early to be thinking about this, but I'm having trouble this year.  I was planning on making a nice dinner and possibly dessert (MH is really not a sweets fan).

What do you normally do?

Re: What are doing for hubby for Valentine's Day?

  • In the past couple of years, we've gone out for dinner, but as V-Day is on a Monday this year, I'm feeling less than enthused. The weekend before, I'm going to attempt to recreate our wedding cake though! I finally tracked down some passionfruit puree from a Latin grocery store, and I'm going to use Aubrey's recipe for buttercream!

Realistically, it's probably going to be a total disaster, but it'll be fun trying it out!

What I desperately need help with right now is a birthday present for my husband - it's on the 31st, and I have NO idea what to get him this year.

That does sound fun!!! :)  Good luck with that one!  I would probably ruin it myself for sure ;)

I had the hardest luck with MH birthday this year.  His falls on Dec 21st and I sadly didn't go over and beyond for it, I felt bad.

  • We normally just cook something together, something that is a bit fancier than usual. DH picks the wine and what we eat. This year, I might be out of town so we might have to postpone it for when we are in Vegas the week after. We don't normally do any presents but I do try and make something sweet although DH isn't a big dessert fan either.
  • My bday is 2 days before v-day, so I feel bad for DH, haha. But, we usually just celebrate both of them with one dinner on either my bday or the 13th (we dislike going out ON the 14th). It's been a tradition for the last few years to go to Ruth's Chris! YUM, love me some steak. Although, this year I'll have to get... medium well? Sad I love and miss my medium rare steaks... and no wine! Boohoo. Okay, pity party over.
  • LOL Cai! The things we give up for kids, huh?
  • Good Q, I actually haven't even thought about it!  That is a first.  Having a baby totally changes your priorities :)  It'd be fun to have a nice dinner at home, I think... or a date night would be wonderful.  Enjoy your Valentine's... the last one before LO arrives :D

  • caia - wow! Your siggy pic is amazing! I want to see more.

OP - I don't know what we're doing. 2011 has not been good. DH has had medical issues since Dec, so the new year did not start right. If he gets back to normal, I would love to have a whole Valentine's weekend!

Ahh, indeed. It's too bad all the things I love: over easy eggs, eggs benedict, medium rare steaks, uhhh, hello SUSHI!!! are all "bad." Boooooooo.

What?!?  These are the things I never thought about...I might have to re-think getting preggers  :P  I'm like you...easy over eggs, medium rare steak, sushi.  Ahhh...I knew about the sushi but didn't realize I'd have to give up my runny eggs and bloody steak too!

As for V-day, I've never been a big fan and haven't really celebrated.  We were going to try and go out one year, but the restaurants were packed and the menus were limited (they only offer their special V-day menu), so we decided to just cook steak and lobster at home.  We'll probably do something similar this year.  It hasn't been a good 2011 healthwise for us either, so we'll just take it easy.  Plus my 30th birthday is coming up next week followed by our first year anniversary and then V-day...no plans for any of that yet, so we'll see.  I'd love to hear what others are doing :)

  • we usually go to MH's company crab feed which is that weekend. er.. it's a crab feed that one of their clients throws. although this yeasr because it's so close to the date, we may not go.

otherwise, we usually don't celebrate. we find it's too much pressure on one day... so we make sure to have special weekends away throughout the year instead.

Haha, yup! It's terrible. Scrambled just doesn't compare.

  • We usually will stay and home cook. I might get lucky and dh may make one our favouirtes dishes, that we rarely have. He is really great cook, just wish he did it a little more often.

I have already gotten his gift. He already has the Seasons 1 to 6 of the original Hawaii Five-O. Then I just ordered him the remaining seasons 7 to 10 from amazon, to complete his dvd library. He loves sweets so I will include his favouirte M&M's and those Kinder Egg Surprise with the toy inside Big Smile
