dress for work??

so I was browsing since C needs some maternity pants soon (she's only 9 weeks  but the doc said the bloat will be replaced by an actual bump in a couple given the circumstances, and not much more is going to make it...hah...she'd kill me if she knew how much i was sharing)

Anyway, I was flipping through Kohl's dresses (for me, hah)...and in the work section

Simply Vera Vera Wang Plaid Embellished Dress

shapeless plaid sack + sequin stripe? what??

I guess they are qualifying hooking in their work section? Yikes, that dress looks awful.

  • I kind of like the dress. I have a cardigan and a jacket I could wear it with. Embarrassed I wear a lot of dresses to work in the spring/summer. But then again, it also looks like something I would like online and hate in the store or if I tried it on.

  • I love Kohls in general. But, their dresses almost always leave something to be desired. I'm finding Target has been having some nice, inexpensive dresses lately.

This post also made me remember that I really want to find a couple dresses appropriate for colder temperatures. Let the onlnie shopping commence Wink

  • I wear dresses to work a.lot. prob half hthe time. But sequins??
  • Rule of thumb sequins is not okay for work, unless you work at a club and a pole is required (j/k)

Can C do leggings/long sweater dresses? I just got a sweater dress at Marshalls for $40. It's cute, comfy and very flattering.

she COULD (and has the legs unlike me, hah) but she won't. She's in a 95% male office too so she usually does button downs. She's moved mostly to sweaters this week though since tucking them in is awkward now.

I did tell her that she will need to deal with a couple of maternity dresses since she will be HUGE midsummer :)  (and everything she gets has to be reusable for me, hehe).

  • I actually kind of like that dress. I would wear it with a cropped black blazer and leggings! I think depending on your work dress code/enviroment, it could work!

  • I'm with Ana on this one. And I could totally wear it to work.... but then again I am allowed to wear anything except jeans with holes in them (and that is just because my dad doesn't like them on me - he doesn't comment if other employees do)

I have actually worn pajama pants to work on more than 1 occasion. Embarrassed But in my defense I do it on the anniversary of Kevin's death and they are Superman (his nickname) pants.  But then there are days I will wear dresses (like all summer when I was pg)

  • ok, fair enough on the work environment. I could show up in a paper bag and no one would notice, but sequins would totally get the side eye. Higher ed tends towards the conservative and sometimes frumpy. I was considered the trendy dresser in my last office, which is just funny.

yes, absolutely. I've gotten side eye looks with a hot pink scarf and black sweater. Sad, very sad.

Ditto. If I'm wearing something other than jeans I get looked at funny. (Note: I work in a lab, not office, but even if someone in HQ wore that dress they would totally get the side eye.)

I love wearing sweater dresses + leggings to work. I fought that trend so hard, but I finally broke down around Thanksgiving and bought a few sweater/legging outfits. I absolutely love them! I've never been so comfortable at work. They're casual, but still dressy enough for my office.
