What do you eat for breakfast? I need some new ideas.

I'm starting a new job, that I have to be at by 7am. I get up at 5am, but I still don't have a lot of time to eat in the morning.

I'm thinking I need something quick (bonus if I can make it the night before maybe or doesn't require prep even), that I could possibly eat in the car, and that's really filling. Oatmeal is my old standy-by, but I need something new.

What do you eat in the morning? Any suggestions? Thanks Big Smile

  • I'm not a big breakfast eater, but my go to items are Nutrigrain (or the like) cereal bars (the Special K ones are really my favy), cereals that can be eaten w/out milk like frosted mini wheats, cheerios, etc.  I generally spend a decent amount of time in that aisle at the grocery store to get ideas.  GL!

  • Have you tried steel-cut/Irish oatmeal?  It's very rough & has an almost chewy texture when it's cooked.  I've done a few servings at once (some people do it in the crock pot) and reheat in the morning.  You can cook it with part or all milk for a little more flavor.  TJ has frozen packages but I haven't tried them.  I also like smoothies (frozen fruit/banana/milk),  an egg & English muffin, or peanut butter toast.  Usually though I just make an extra large lunch and start grazing in the morning.  I don't really have an appetite until I've been up for a couple of hours but I can't go until lunch with no food.  Maybe pack an extra sandwich, cheese/deli meat, or hard boiled egg?

  • My go-to's for breakfast:

English muffin with peanut butter, or egg and cheese, or veggie sausage patties and cheese (they're good and healthier than regular sausage, even though I'm not a vegetarian)

Smoothie made with milk, frozen fruit, and protein powder (overripe bananas are good for freezing)

    Yogurt with fruit and granola

Oatmeal with nuts, raisins and/or craisins, and brown sugar or honey

Frozen multi-grain waffles with lite syrup or fruit (if I do this I might also have a spoonful of peanut butter or half a powerbar for some protein, but that's due to blood sugar issues - all carbs and no protein means I'll crash soon after)

    Homemade energy bars

  • I like to chop veggiesand mix with a dozen eggs (3 eggwhites to one whole egg). Then stir in a pinch of salt, black pepper and some shredded cheese.  Pour in muffin tins and bake. They store and reheat pretty well; we eat them as finger food in the car between gym and work.

  • My breakfast lately has been uncrustables PB & J sandwiches. I take one out of the freezer as I'm getting ready in the morning, and it's ready to eat when I get to work (45-60 minutes to defrost).

  • The smart ones microwavable breakfast sandwiches or Jimmy Dean delights are really easy and filling since they have the protein from the egg. I usually throw that in the microwave while I finish getting ready and eat it on the way to work.
