Does popularity of the name effect your decision? Just curious...
I just plugged names I like with our last name into facebook search to see how many are out there. There is often one or more other out there with even some of my "different" names I like. If you liked another name and there were 50 other people with that name on facebook alone, would you choose it anyway?
I only scored two 0 people with the name for boys (out of 17), but I did have eight 0 people with the name for girls (out of 24).
My first name and maiden name there was only one other person with that name on facebook and it was her name by marriage. I liked that. There are 13 people with my first name and married name. Not too bad. There are some of my friends that I couldn't find because there were 300+ people with that name, so I had to tell them to look for me instead.
So, would facebook popularity of the name you like effect your decision?
Re: Baby Names and Facebook
This... I had liked the name Madison for a while (before it became trendy), but wouldn't use it at this point due to the excessive popularity.
As a kid with an unusual name, I hated my name growing up. I wanted to get the little license plate for my bike with my name, etc., which was never available. I also had to correct the pronunciation of EVERY teacher I had up until high school (it's like Kenya without the "y"). I'd want a name that was a bit more mainstream, but not in the top 50-100 current names.
Yeah, I went with the "it's like fish-a but with a t" LMAO Because people always tried to pronounce it like "Teeeeesha."

Me too. I would maybe go as far as "oh, that's different" but hopefully not "what the f was wrong with your mother" (I hope). ha ha. I also had to correct everyone with saying my name also, or I just answer to about 5 versions of it. It's easiest to tell people Sha-na, rhymes with Donna. But I also answer to Shauna, Shayna, Shanna, and even Shannon. I don't know why someone would say my name as Shannon, but it happens.
I believe I would go more off the SS baby name list and how popular it says the name is, than FB, which has international access to baby name choices. AKA, a name that isn't popular in the US might be more popular in another country, which could account for the number of people of FB with the same name.
The girl name I like isn't in the top 1000 most popular on the SS name list, but the boy name we would probably go with is an extremely popular name and has been for the past 100 years, if not more. I wouldn't want my child have to grow up as Katie Initial, but I do want it to be a name that people can pronounce and spell and won't go "What were her parents thinking/smoking?"
I've never done the Facebook search, but I don't know how credible that theory would be, as each generation has their own "most popular" names, so what may be popular for all those 25-year-olds may not be popular with this generation
