Does anyone have those Space Saver storage bags?

You know the ones that you suck all the air out of with the vacuum cleaner?  How do you like them?  Do they work?  I am packed to the gills at home and need some good storage solutions!  TIA.

Re: Does anyone have those Space Saver storage bags?

  • I bought some from QVC.  I thought they were terrible, and based on the reviews, many other folks thought so too.  They were GREAT...for about a day.  Then, they filled up with air again.  I followed the directions exactly and did not overfill them.  The tops were sealed.  ?????  For some reason, they just don't work for long.  Otherwise, I'd highly recommend them.  Lately, I've just been taking a hard look at my closets, and deciding that I just don't need most of the stuff in there.  Whatever you choose to do...good luck and I hope it works!!! :)

    Ditto all of this.

  • I have had really good luck with the space saver totes. They hold a ton of stuff and once you have sucked the air out of them, the space bag is cased in a canvas bag so even if some air did get in (I haven't experienced any problems with them) that canvas bag would prevent it from expanding back much. I have used these for moving multiple times and now for seasonal clothing storage and I couldn't be happier.

  • I've had the space saver bags filled with blankets in my closet for about 6 months. My only problem was overfilling one of the bags. The seam along the zipper can tear easily if the bag is overfilled, but the others are still fine. All in all, I really like them, and they're saving a log of space storing our heirloom quilts.
  • We have a bunch and they're hit or miss if they'll work.  I do like the 1 tote we have, though.
  • Yes, they are great for winter coats and down comforters but not so great for t shirts and summer clothes.
  • They work, but not as good as on the commercials.

I have used them for storing clothes as my kids grow older (I am hanging onto them in case we decide to have another).  I like them b/c aside from the space saving aspects, it keeps dirt, etc. out.  And is easier to manage than a plastic tub.

You can't put as much into them, and they don't shrink to a flat nothingness like in the commercials.

However, I would still recommend them.  Especially if space/storage is an issue for you.

  • I've only used them them for short term storage. I like to use them when we travel with bulky items such as jackets, ski gear.

They seem to work fine for that.

  • we just started using them...they are not as good as the commercials and the pillows work the best - other than that I would say the space is minimized by about 1/3.  again hit or miss on the quality
  • I think they work pretty well. Before we moved to our new house (much more storage space here), I swore by them for storing the clothes DD had outgrown. I got the large size & fit about 3 or 4 diaper boxes full of baby clothes into one bag (which fit perfectly under her crib). I never had any problems with them re-expanding, my only real gripe is that they're not very convenient. It was a pain when I would find one lone shirt that I wanted to put with the other clothes and I would have to open up & reseal the bag. Obviously that's not a problem with the product, just a problem with the method.
