  • Your numerous posts looking for the BEST in several different areas screams of a something odd.  Do you not know where you are moving to yet?  If the answer is no, I recommend looking at those areas and making a decision before you worry about doctors and daycares.

  • Weird. I almost took the time to answer but then checked your other posts.

So you are moving to Mount Laurel or Bucks Co?

  • We are not sure.. We are trying to figure out quickly where we're going to move!  We're not sure if we'll land in NJ because we're worried the property taxes might be much higher than bucks county.  Sorry if this sounded odd, my toddler was here when I was writing it quickly :)

When I say the "best", it's frustrating because I took a lot of time before and during my pregnancy to find the best (to me) in North Carolina where we lived... and it was a lot of research and time.  And now that I have our daughter and being a new Mommy, I'm frantic because we're moving and I have to start all over again and we don't know anyone.  That's the scoop here :)

  • Property taxes vary greatly depending on the time of home you purchase and the township you live in.  In PA taxes are broken down by township, county and school district and you pay each entity separately.  You could live in a not so great township but be in a fantastic school district which will increase your property taxes tremendously as the school taxes are the bulk of your property tax payment every year.

In NJ you pay taxes to one entity...the township/borough that your property is located in and they allocate to the state, the county and the school district.  In my opinion the school districts more effectively reflect the area that you live in and therefore the taxes that you will be paying.  I work in title insurance, the companies that actually conduct closing, and it's been my experience that there isn't a huge gap in property taxes from NJ to PA.

I think you should be more concerned with where you and your husband intend on being employed and looking in an area within a comfortable radius from there.  You also have to take into account your price range.  If you're looking to spend no more than $200K for instance...you may not get a single family home in the area you were hoping for.

  • Hi,

Thanks for your reply.  I understand what you mean... good points.  We're going to look with a realtor in both bucks county and the mount laurel area to compare the two and see what's best.  We can't start looking though until we sell our house in NC, so we're trying to do some computer research now in the meantime and try to narrow down at least the 'area' we want to live in.  We're staying with my in-laws, and it's very tight!  We can't wait to sell our house and finally move closer to my husband's job in new jersey.  It's discouraging relocating, not knowing anyone (my in-laws can't really help -  obviousy their kids are all grown) and having to start all over again.  Our daughter will start pre-school in one more year.  We moved back because all our family lives up in the northeast, so that part is exciting.  But being a new mom and starting our family over some place new is really hard.  It's also hard to make new Mom friends, when you're temporarily living in SUCH a SMALL town in P.A. - just not used to it.

Sorry again for my odd sounding post originally, just panicking a little and trying to figure things out quickly for our family.  And balance my beautiful little one... :)
