Cleaning shower gunk?

Hi girls,

I feel like I have tried everything, but I am trying to clean the soap scum off my shower.  We have a plastic(?) shower insert, and the floor of it is textured and the walls look like fake tile.  The scum gets dark and I can't get anything to remove it.  I have tried Scrubbing Bubbles, Kaboom, Comet, and Soft Scrub.  All work for some of it, but I can't get anything to clean it all.  I have used a sponge and brush on it as well and have let the products sit for a while.  PLEASE help!!!

  • "Bar Keepers Friend". Make a paste with a lil bit of water and let it sit for a few on the scum.

  • Arm and Hamer has a spray that works great. Our CLEAR doors get so white they are not so clear any more and it cleans it easily.  I also use it on the disgusting orange mold, whoever decided sliding glass doors was a good idea is stupid lol.  I don't know if it is too much work but I spray it and leave it for a few minutes and the use a washcloth in big areas and the fun part q-tips in the corners, doors, etc.

    Good luck.

  • If you have a steam cleaner, try adding that to the mix. IT's the best method I've come up with so far, steam the whole wall/glass door/tub/floor/whatever, so things get a little loose, then use whatever cleaner has worked best in the past (I do mix 'em up every now and then) and scrub, then clean the cleaner-residy/foam/whatever off with the steam cleaner again.

A lot of work, but it's like magic in a nifty little machine!

  • If it's true soap scum, original Dawn dish soap should do the trick. The same thing that makes it cut grease in dishes cuts through fat in real soap. I just recently discovered Barkeeper's Friend, and I used that in combination with Dawn, a sponge, and hot water to get my tub clean yesterday.
