I am teaching a class tomorrow on creating a research question. As part
of the class I am going to do a challenge with the students by giving
groups of 3 a seemingly boring topic and giving a prize to the group
that can come up with the most interesting research question from it.
Trouble is, I am having trouble coming up with a topic that is seemingly
uninspired but leaves a lot of room for creativity. (Topic could be
something like "shoes", or "paint") Any ideas? Thanks!!
Re: I need help!
Ok let's see....
The history of Sir William Johnson...he founded most of this area and it may seem super boring but there is so many interesting things he did to help out this area
The history of Saratoga Springs.....again sounds boring but the history of Saratoga is amazing!
The history of the Capital building in Albany. It's massive and in it's day cost milllions with custom marble, it's supposed to be haunted and lots of stories.
Bridges and how they first got created and became what they are today and also how many of them are not being maintained. Interesting and kind of scary. A bridge on I90 collapsed in Fulltonville, NY back in the late 80's early 90's. It has been re-built but it's still kinda cool/freaky.
The Knox family in J'town owned Knox Jello which I believe was before Kraft Jello and their story is interesting and they still have mansion in the town. Which again is supposed to be haunted. Kids like ghosts hahaha.
Sounds like a really fun way to teach what could be a boring subject!
What about colors? Give each group a color- red, yellow, green, etc. I bet you would get some really creative research questions from that. There are so many ways they could interpret a color.
