Are you prepared?

My sister saw a man buying up many cans of tomatoes, in many different varieties today.

We just bought our normal groceries and some faucet covers.

Are you ready if we have a winter storm?

Re: Are you prepared?

  • I made the mistake of going to pick up a few random things today, that were totally unrelated to the storm thats a'coming. It was a massive madhouse.

I guess I just never understood the mass chaos and panic that happens before a winter storm rolls in. It's ice/snow. We get it just about every year.

  • I'm going by WalMart (blech) on my way home tomorrow. We need some groceries anyways, so I'm going to get some makings for cold-weather food--stews, soups, etc. That's about it, though.

  • We always have enough food/wine on hand to feed an army, so I think we're cool. DH did have me pick up some salt for the driveway last week, though.
  • Not overly concerned about it. Might go to Lowe's or something to grab a bag of salt, but beyond that I think we'll be fine.

  • DH just went to the grocery store on a regular shopping trip since we were just about out of some basics, not to stock up for the storm. Crest is usually busy weekend afternoons, but he said today was on the order of Walmart crazy. I knew there was a reason I had him go instead of me, other than not wanting to change out of my pajama pants. Big Smile

We figured out how to use our fireplace last weekend, so if our power goes out we'll still have heat. We only have enough wood for a day, but we have plenty of blankets to cuddle under. I do need to bring wood in tonight, so I don't have to go out when it's wet and frigid.

I'm hoping for no work Tuesday and possible Wednesday! I do need to get to the library tomorrow to stock up on reading material just in case.

  • I'm in Tulsa and they are saying we could get up to 14inches of snow.  We did go shopping today, but it was our normal shopping run.  I really hope it doesn't snow that much because I don't feel like using my vacation time if I can't get in to work.

  • I'm about to head out just to get regular stuff that we're almost out of.  I'm hoping since we waited until later that it won't be too crazy (and that they'll still have everything we need in stock - most importantly, the Ritz pretzel crisps!).
  • Lol. I love this state, I really do! If we were in Colorado like we originally planned, no school cancellations, however we are in OK! I am so hoping for Tuesday/Wednesday off. We (like a pp mentioned) have enough water, food to feed an army anyway.

Yeah, I'm one of the people who stocks up on wine, instead of the requisite milk and bread (what's up with that, anyway?).

  • I need to go to the store after work tomorrow to get a few things, not to prepare for the storm but because I refuse to go on a Sunday. We don't really "stock up" before storms, we usually have the basics on hand anyway. I may rent a movie if it looks like I'll be stuck at home Tuesday....

It makes total sense! If you know you're going to have the next day off, you might as well enjoy it :)

  • I went out on our weekly grocery trip. Whoops. It was nuts. I had to wait in line for a cart.

I was surprised at my Homeland, actually, as it wasn't any more busy than usual. Home Depot was about the same, as well.

  • Apparently I need to pull my head out of my @ss.  We went to Wally World after the Thunder game and couldn't imagine WTF was going on. People everywhere, kids screaming and running all over the place - okay, that is normal, the store was nearly out of bread......big storm coming, eh?

I guess I should have bought something other than fruit, sandwich meat, and apple juice.

We went to Sams and Crest. Both were nuts. I wasn't stocking up for the storm, but since I was out of town last week, I needed fresh veggies and fruit.

  • We stocked up tonight. Didn't have to get much just some snack things and milk. Thus should be interesting since Dh is going to Tulsa for business. Hopefully he can make it back home by Thursday.

  • I'm about to head to Wal-Mart to get just what I need until this thing blows through. I'm trying to save my big shopping until I can hit the Commissary. I do NOT want to deal with Wal-Mart after work tomorrow, so I'd better go now while I have the time and patience.

I need some of the basics, and some frozen foods since it's just me this week [JJ's with my parents]. I picked up some more salt, too. Last time we had a legit winter storm, my apartment didn't do jack [they never do because they don't want to be held liable for anything], so I had to dig myself out. It sucked.

  • I went to walmart and got stuff for the week and spent $200. Now we are at the pharmacy waiting on prescriptions for B after our trip to Mercy after hours. 104.4 fever...ugh. He has a double ear infection and upper respiratory distress. Tested negative for the flu though. He's exhausted :(

I plan to go to Braums after work and stock up on milk and OJ; would rather go to Wal-Mart because I like Simply Orange Juice better but don't want to fight the crowd that will be in there. I also need to pick up some bread and whatever else I see I think we may want if were stuck at home for a couple of days.

  • We went to Crest at about 10 last night. Luckily, the crowds were gone. We just had to get a few basic things.

I loooove Simply Orange Juice. Extra pulp? Yes, please!

  • My mom threw faucet covers and a box of salt in my car this morning when she picked up C. ::shrug:: I guess I'm not "prepared" but I just think the meteorologists  are making it a bigger deal than it's going to be.
  • I'm getting my hair done tonight, so H has to go to the store for the essentials.  Milk, bread and BEER.  We could probably live without the milk and bread, but I'm not staying cooped up in the house for a possible two days with nothing to drink.
  • I haven't been to the store in weeks, so I did a normal grocery shopping today. I'm all stocked up. Stopped by the liquor store for a big bottle of wine, as well.
  • I just bought a big bag of dog food since we only had a few days' worth left. Let Snowmageddon 2011 begin!
