Hi all, I don't think I've ever posted here, but figured this was the place to ask. ![]()
I work at a biotech company and I'm looking for a new job, hopefully at the same company. I'm a research scientist working on a grant that didn't get re-funded, so when the money's gone, I'm done. In November I met with the scientific communications department (where I would LOVE to work), they told me they had an open position, approval to hire, etc, HR just needed to post it. Last Monday, they told me it would be posted in the next couple of weeks-still not posted.
Tomorrow I have a second interview for a production scientist job, which I don't really want. It's not something I'm that interested in doing long term. (Esp compared with how excited I am about the communications job). But I love the company and can't afford to end up unemployed.
Is there a good way to tell communications to hurry up? I'm thinking not, but I really want to...
Re: Waiting for job to be posted...
If you really want this job then you have nothing to lose by being assertive. I'd be upfront with the hiring manager, let him know that you are interviewing for other positions but really want to work in his department. Throw in a bit about it being a perfect fit and all to let him know he'd be lucky to have you on his staff. There may be nothing he can do to speed up HR...but then again, maybe there is.
I would definitely remind your contact of your current situation. Maybe offer to meet up for lunch since your departure date is fast approaching and you want to say "good bye".
Maybe HR is taking longer because the job is being restructrured or it isnt in the budget.
If for one reason or another you have to take on another job because this option falls through, then you can always ask this person to serve as your reference for any other positions you apply for.
Good luck!
