Interview Attire

Hello ladies!

I have an interview coming up and I must dress to impress.  Where would a gal go for an outfit that makes her look sharp, smart and confident?  Specific links to ideas would be amazing (particularly specific colors of the clothing items).  I'm partially colorblind and totally lacking style so I need any help I can get.  I was thinking Ann Taylor Loft?

Or... would I look too spacey if I considered something from Boden? There clothing is so damn pricey, but I'm willing to spend a small fortune down on clothing down to my underroos if it helped me with this interview!

 TIA!

Re: Interview Attire

  • Ann Taylor would be good. I'm not sure exactly what you want, I always interview in a pant suit personally. Macy's usually has a good selection of suits. I like classic black suits with a white collard shirt underneath. My last suit I got was an evan picone from macy's black with a darker bluish wide pinstrip that I wear with a white shirt. Good luck with the interview

  • I am all about a simple/classic black suit for interviews.  You can get them many places -- I personally LOVE Banana Republic suits, but they are a lot of $ (for me...)  You can also check Macy's, Ann Taylor, and even JC Penney and NY & CO have suiting that isn't super $.  You can put any kind of shirt underneath them -- a shell or a collared shirt.  It all depends on what you are most comfortable in and what compliments you.  (I think a color is fine, as well as white.)  You could do pants or a skirt, just be sure it is something you really like and are comfortable and confident in. You don't want to be tugging at a skirt or hiking up a low cut shirt on your way in to the interview.  Good luck!
  • I think any simple black suit is great (anyone from JC Penney to Macy's to BR have them) with a colored blouse underneath. Nice classic black shoes (pumps) and definitely nice necklace/earrings to set it all off.

My principal always suggests wearing color under black. Gives a nice pop of color to show a bit of personality and can often help people remember you (remember the girl with the green blouse? type stuff).

    GOOD LUCK! :)

  • I agree re. the black suit. I prefer a pants suit with a colored shirt and nice shoes.

I also LOVE BR pants and have splurged on a few pairs for dress pants for work lately. I have a hellish time finding pants that fit me correctly so didn't mind investing in them. Ann Taylor Loft has some cute things and at either place I'm sure they'd love to help offer advice (go on a slow night or something)

    Best of luck!

  • I agree with the PP's, BR or AT have great pant suits that would be appropriate.  Keep it simple and classy.
  • I'm going to sound like a broken record but I think a black suit with a colored top looks very sharp and the stores that were already mentioned are great to find just the right suit for you.
  • Thanks all.  Just re-read it and I typed "there" instead of "their". D'oh!

Ann Taylor it is! Although I would really love to go to Banana Republic! Wish they had one close by.
