we have two other couples that we hang out with often, and we always go over to one house. This friend has two dogs, so pepper plays with them, theres enough room, and its always fun.
I asked them what they were doing for superbowl, and they both said nothing. I emailed this one friend and said that I wouldn't mind having them over here even though there wasnt a lot of space, but I didn't really care what we did.
I said this hoping that she would suggest going over there because, well, this place is small. I also didn't want to invite ourselves over.
So, on one hand, I have to figure out how to fit six people in our living room comfortably. Sure, we had the halloween party here with 30 people, but that was party-type seating...lots of chairs lining the room.
On the other hand, I'm pumped to just relax here, and play hostess for the night. One of the main reasons why I can't wait to get a house.
soo...what should I make? I'm sure they will bring something..but I was thinking spicy spinach artichoke dip and chocolate peanut butter cupcakes, but I'm not sure what else.
any favorites? I'm thinking mostly snacky foods.
Re: soo...I think we're "hosting" a super bowl party
oooh we're hosting too (but we've sort of extended the invitation to anyone in the College of Environment and Design grad program, so we'll probably end up with 20-30 people!) I am making chili 3 ways (beer, mole, and sweet potato) and then corn bread mini muffins. Everyone else is bringing snacks/drinks, so I'm really no help with finger foods to make. The spinach artichoke dip sounds good! Maybe add something with protein, like skewers with a dipping sauce
For $20, you can get a 4 foot party sub from Walmart. They come with your choice of up to 3 meats and the veggies can be on it or on the side, and condoments are in little packets. You also get to cut it in the serving size you want. We did this for our NYE party and worked great.
Otherwise, I have a few favorite dips you can make: buffalo chicken, bacon cheeseburger, ruben, or chocolate chip cheesecake dip. Another favorite is called Hidden Treasure bread (pickles, ham and cream cheese mixture in an Italian loaf).
Can I get your recipe for chocolate chip cheesecake dip?! What do you dip in that, as I can imagine it's pretty rich
Chocolate chip cheese cake dip
2 pkgs of cream cheese
2/3 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup powdered sugar, slightly mounded (heaping)
1 tsp vanilla
-Mix above ingredients in a large bowl with a mixer.
Stir in 1/2 bag of mini chocolate chips and 1/2 bag of Heath bar pieces. Refrigerate until serving time.
Serve with Graham crackers or Nilla wafers.
-ENJOY!!!!
omigosh, that sounds amazing and delicious! I might have to take that to the party I'm going to!
Other good snacky foods: meatballs, veggie/fruit tray, sliders

I really like the skewer and sandwich ideas!
Also, that cheesecake dip looks amazing..mmm
perogies to represent pittsburgh
i loathe the steelers, but i heart our quirky foods 'round here!
i find it funny that everyone is getting ready to host superbowl parties. i live in the city that has a team IN the superbowl and i won't even bother to watch the game, let alone attend or host a superbowl party. but i'm like this every year. DH will go to his parents to watch the game so that i can have a quiet, football free, house.
Nvanhelden - that dip is right up my alley! It's basically cream cheese icing with candy in it
Carcrash - We're a very anti-steelers household, so I'm gonna spend all night rooting against them!
GOOD! me too! i'm so ready for football to be over. i'm preparing my shank so that i can shank every single person that is steeler crazy. by the time i'm done there won't be anyone left standing in this city..which is ok by me! i walk about 7 blocks from my car to the office and go past at least 3 stores that have radios and speakers blasting steeler songs. i'm all stabby by the time i get to where i'm going!
We're hosting, too! Hell, we'll take up any excuse for a party.
I think we'll do a turkey chili in the crock pot, make some corn bread muffins, and we'll probably pick up a sandwich tray from Subway (it's right around the corner from us). As for snacky stuff, Nvanhelden has the right idea!
The Bears/Packers rivalry makes nearly every Chicago household a Steelers household this Sunday - but if it makes you anti-Steelers fans feel better, the Packers will probably win.
CCH - your hatred for the Steelers sounds like my hatred for the Cubs...but at least the Steelers actually win games! The Cubs haven't done anything remotely close to winning in a friggin' century. *barf*

I didn't even see this one earlier! sliders sound amazing, and I've done meatballs in the crockpot before for sandwiches, so that might be nice.
...to tell you the truth...I'm not into football at all. I use superbowl as an excuse to eat lots of food and hang out. haha.
If you add in drinking, that's my plan for the day! lol

We are hosting too, we have for the past 4 years. I am a football fan, and although the Pats didn't make it, I'm really just glad the Jets lost so Sean and I can host our friends without them rubbing it in our faces every 5 seconds. We're all losers. lol
I think I'm going to do a crock of meatballs, a crock of pepperocini beef, a veggie tray, and people are bringing various bags of chips and snackies. And beer.
