Fit Chicks

Go ahead, share.....

I am soooo off the wagon it isn't even funny!    I do not have much to share.  Although I just realized that I have 5 weeks to be in shape for a 5K (Irish Road Rover - who else is doing it?)   Last year I PR'd.  I'm pretty sure I won't even be close this year.  Just hoping at this point to finish.   :)   And I ordered a new video - Jillian Michael's 6 week 6 pack (or some nonsense like that) just for added motivation.  Just need something new.  I'm not expecting miracles.  Anyways, hoping at least to make good food choices this week!  I've got veggies and hummus for lunches this week and lots of fruit.  No idea about dinners yet.  Tonight is fridge- cleanup.

Re: Fit Chicks

  • I'm kinda hanging onto the wagon with one half of my body while the other flails in the general direction of my couch and Milky Way Midnight bars ... finally back on my running/training schedule at least, and I've got healthy stuff in the fridge and cupboards ... oatmeal breakfasts and salad dinners with sandwiches on whole wheat sandwich thins for lunch ... nothing mind blowing but I'm really working on limiting the # of meals I eat out or get takeout vs. cooking at home.  That should help...I think!!

It is so funny that you mention this dvd because I just did level 1 of it on demand and LOVED it. I was coming on here to recommend it to others! Great mix of cardio and core work. DH and I are doing the Irish Road Rover too. I just told him yesterday that it is 5 weeks away. He lifts weights regularly, but hasn't run since...well the last race I made him do with me in late July. Sadly, that won't stop him from keeping up or beating me!

I ran 4 miles on Saturday and did the 6 wk 6 pk video today. I plan to do a dvd tomorrow and Friday too and then get in a run this weekend.  I think I am going to take a break from tracking food on Lose It for a little while. Of course, still making good choices, keeping portions reasonable and trying to limit to one sweet per day.

Food thoughts- spaghetti with homemade turkey meatballs today, pork roast tomorrow, sausage w/ peppers and onions Wednesday. That's as far as I've gotten!

The Irish Road Rover is on March 6th in Portland.  You can sign up on active.com.  I'm also doing one on March 26th called Race 2 the Point.  It's for my school's PTA program so thought I'd be a good role model and participate.  :)

  • I was naughty, naughty, naughty this weekend with copious amounts of pickle dip on Friday, a big Chipotle burrito on Saturday, and some Coldstone cake batter on Sunday :)  But in my defense it was a beautiful celebration of being able to eat iodine again, so I consider it to be a well-deserved series of splurges.  I also did not do any exercise.  I'm back on the wagon today though.  I've dropped my calories down to 1449 (1 1/2 lbs a week on loseit), which feels more doable now that I have more food choices.  I did eat some reese's cups today, but I've accounted for them.  I plan to either do 30DS or go on the treadmill tonight, maybe some pilates also.

Breakfast will probably be special k and soy milk, lunches will be leftovers or lean cuisines, dinners are chicken curry over basmati rice with naan, and a couple Make Thyme for Dinner meals - pork tenderloin and chicken cordon bleu I think.  And leftovers.

  • I actually was pretty good over the weekend, which felt great considering I acted like a complete piglet the weekend before in Pittsburgh. Smile I did Long & Lean each day, as well as a bunch of laundry and chores, so I was carrying huge loads up & down 3 flights of stairs and whatnot. Eating wise, I stuck to steel cut oatmeal w/ apples, walnuts & a little maple syrup for breakfasts, salad or soup for lunch, and  big ol' whole wheat sandwiches for dinner both nights (apparently I'm on a sandwich kick) with tons of fresh veggies.

This week I'm planning on sticking to the Long & Lean workout three nights (M/W/F) as well as a couple of possible gym trips on the weekend. Weekday breakfasts are usually Special K, yogurt and coffee. Lunches are salads, soups or leftovers and snacks are veggies and clementines. Dinner-wise, I picked up some veal last night, so I plan on doing a simple seared veal with a fresh roasted tomato, onion & olive sauce (which will cover two nights), roast chicken breast with sauteed spinach and cauliflower puree (another two nights), and then maybe something fun/special on Friday night. • With the exception of the day last week when I decided I HAD to have a giant bakery cookie with my lunch, I've been doing pretty well.  This week is going to be a big challenge.  I'm probably going to be bringing work home every night and have acupuncture and massage therapy so my free time will be pretty limited.  At least my meals and snacks are healthy - breakfasts: oatmeal or kashi cereal, lunch: sandwich dinner: pork and wild rice soup for a couple of nights and kclouts' turkey couscous salad for a couple more, then a stacked veggie quesadilla full of good veggies and beans. snacks: edamame, raisins, baby carrots, peanuts, and granola bars.
  • I've burned 1100 calories in the past week just on the elliptical and not counting 3+ classes I took at the gym. I'm going to 3 classes tonight (1.5 hours total) and will likely do the elliptical before to rack up the calorie count up.

My big push lately has been to make massive amounts of healthy dishes and freeze them so we can eat those instead of more unhealthy, easy, quick dishes. This past weekend I made three trays of lasagna. But I used my food processor to chop up 2 bags of California mixed vegetables and 2 blocks of spinach and mixed that in with the fat free ricotta cheese. Overall, not bad for you and has a TON of vegetables mixed in that don't detract from the taste. So I'm calling it a success. I think I have 12 meals in the freezer for us from that. Tomorrow, during our snow day, I'm planning to make a huge batch of turkey chili and get that frozen in to 2 person portions.

  • The end of last week was a shi$ show for me with food.  I had factored in book club on Friday night and did well on Saturday but it all went to hell on Sunday.  I had zero self control.  But in the end, I didn't lose or gain anything, so I am happy with that.

For exercise this week, I will do my usual 50 minutes of cardio five times and then 20 minutes of strength training three times.

    For food this week:

Breakfasts - Multigrain Cheerios with skim milk and coffee with Coffeemate.

Lunches - One final open-faced chicken salad sandwich with asparagus yesterday, one peanut butter and jelly sandwich today, followed by three days of Greek yogurts; Special K bars or 100 Calorie Packs.

Dinners - Chicken cordon bleu with broccoli or green beans and mozzarella chicken with peppers and olives with some whole wheat pasta from the Prep Kitchen.  I also have a work event on Friday night, but I should be able to manage a semi-healthy dinner out of that too, as long as I don't overindulge.

Snacks - 100 Calorie Packs and Breyers Delights ice cream sandwiches.

  • I have no clue where my immune system went this winter.  I spent last Tuesday-Sunday sleeping and trying to drink enough fluids, but without much of an appetite I managed to lose over 5 lbs.  So not the way I had hoped to do that.

I still don't have much of an appetite but I'm forcing myself to eat something at every meal time so I don't feel like passing out, usually apple sauce, an orange, or an english muffin.  I walked on the treadmill for 30 min. last night because I was so tired of just sitting around, but later felt like I had run a marathon so I may give myself one more day to get back to feeling better before I get back to running.  I also, still, have not been grocery shopping so I have no clue what I'm going to do about meals.  On the plus side, I don't think over-eating will be my problem this week.

  • Last week I attempted to jump back on the workout wagon...which was great, except it only lasted one day.

Eating for last week was okay - I made a pot roast loosely following a Cooking Light recipe...and we ate that for 3 nights over the past week.  Thursday we went out to dinner with a friend unexpectedly and I wound up inhaling a sausage risotto that, I have to say, was worth every calorie.  My friend, who got the same thing, wrapped literally half of her portion up to take home and I ate the ENTIRE plate.  I just tell myself risotto doesn't tend to reheat well...

Then Saturday, I wound up making homemade ice cream and hot fudge for H's late birthday celebration...the biggest issue with that is we'll have it around for a few days and it's all I can think about.

This week, I'm innsitting, so I'll probably head home this afternoon and try to make a big pot of spaghetti sauce and meatballs to bring back to the inn to have for dinner all week...with some whole wheat pasta, bread and salad...and wine.

I hope to get back to working out once I'm home again.
