**Summer**

You're almost done nursing? Have you been weaning C to formula or to milk, or to solids?

I dropped pumping session in an effort to get my life under control. But, like everything else going on, I have such mixed feelings about it -- don't want to "give up" before 1 year, then he gets a cold and I think "if only he was getting 1 more bottle/day he wouldn't get sick," etc.

Not to mention that I can't even imagine him drinking milk from his sippy or getting enough nutrition from solids ... it takes him an hour to eat a handful of O's or peas -- there isn't enough time in the day!

Re: **Summer**

  • We haven't weaned yet but I'm going to at a year. He's been eating every 4 hours now since early Dec so that dropped a pumping session which has been nice (from 3 to 2). I get waaaay less milk when I pump at work now so he's been having to get half BM, half formula from bottles with my mom.

I'm definitely going to push it out this last month b/c, why not, and I just know I'll be kicking myself for making this far and stopping short of a year. I know I'm going to miss it so much but I'm looking forward to booting the pump and being a little more relaxed.

He definitely is eating 3 meals of solids a day and drinks maybe an ounce or two all day of water from a sippy. It is so wierd to think he'll be on milk out of a sippy soon! His 12 month appt is on the 11th so I'll just keep up the BM/formula until the doc can confirm he's good to go to milk.

  • ::butting in:: I can NOT believe you both are so close to the one year mark.

I also wanted to warn you that I will be bugging you about pumping eventually.

I know, it's crazy! Please do, I don't mind any questions at all (or complaints/concerns:)).

ETA: I don't mind questions and stuff b/c I remember this stuff being so foreign to me and I kept reading and reading stuff and just needed someone I knew to break it down for me. My mind was all over I couldn't figure things out on my own!

Pooks, bug away! I don't know where I'd be without my local nesties, who collectively are BFing / Pumping pros. I absolutely feel the responsibility to share the knowledge (like when we had bios during our wedding planning and would rec vendors, etc. -- that's how I feel about BFing / pumping!)

Summer, that's great that he's on 3 real meals. Jacob is up to 2, but both of them still involve a lot of purees. Tonight we were both home and dinner was cooked before bedtime (yay crockpot!), so we had a family dinner and Jacob ate his first real dinner -- but it was still only a handful of peas and corn. He's still getting the hang of putting it in his mouth himself. What time does Campbell eat dinner? Do you all eat it together?

  • Oh, he's definitely still on purees mostly! There's very little real food he's had (bananas, toast, green beans, cheese, baked potato, noodles (but he's not too good at that) egg yolks, chicken).

He usually has puffs or cheerios then a fruit or veggie (depending on the meal), then yogurt (if it's dinner) or a mum-mum (if it's breakfast or lunch).

We do have dinner together at the table! We pull his high chair up in between us and then take turns feeding him and eating our own. Then we try to give him some things that he can feed himself so we can have a break and eat our own. We eat dinner at 7 and then bath at 7:30 and then rocking by 8. For breakfast and lunch its usually about an hour after his milk.

  • I'm butting in on this too>

We eat dinner as a family and Xander's high chair is between the two of us. We use to feed him how Summer and Nick are feeding Campbell, but now Xander only wants to feed himself. If I can recommend one thing I would give them a fork or spoon with each meal, they may not use it but it gets them use to the idea of using them to feed themselves.

  • Thanks Dana! I gave him his very own spoon yesterday and all he did was suck on it like a teething biscuit. Teething biscuit in one hand, spoon in the other, and alternated. I was kind of funny (took a video, of course!)

Dana & Summer: the mental image of your family dinners is really cute! The challenge for us is to have dinner ready by 6:15 b/c we don't get home usually until 6. We try to get Jacob to bed by 7, but sometimes it's closer to 7:30. It's another thing I've been trying to work on. (I pile the mommy guilt on myself)

We're going to try egg yolks tomorrow. We've been holding off on wheat and milk until b/c of Thom's and MIL's allergies, so I feel like he hasn't been exposed to much -- but we found O's made from oats so he's had those (of course I discovered after he ate them that they have almonds in them -- but now I know he's not allergic to almonds!), and barley teething biscuits.

  • I feel like a bad mommy because Xander's bed time isn't until 9. So we have time to eat dinner at 6 and then bath time and play time.

Ah! It works both ways. We're never good enough :P

I was talking to a woman who said her son was in the 75% and I could tell that she was concerned he was "so big." But inside I wished Jacob was in the 75% b/c his growth really slowed lately and he's at about 15%. The grass is always greener ...

  • Campbell's pedi said bed time should be between 6-8 at this age so you're fine. She sort of gave us the side eye when we told her it was 8 but I don't care, its still within that frame and I just can't do any earlier with getting home at 6 and wanting to do dinner before bed. don't feel bad about his percentile! you're feeding him! Its just must be his genes that make him long and lean!
