First, thank you all so much for the thoughts & prayers - I just can't tell you how much that means.
We still don't have a lot of answers. My mom talked to the nurse yesterday. There is a solid mass in her parathyroid and it's characteristics are highly suspicious. She meets with a surgeon tomorrow at 2pm (not Friday at 10am like my grandma had told my mom - she's so confused.) My mom questioned why they're not referring to an endocrinologist first, and their only explanation was they want the surgeon to check things out to decide if we need to just biopsy or get it out of there immediately.
DH is taking Thursday & Friday off of work so that we can go home and be there for my mom & grandma, just in case things get crazy.
I'm trying to hard to be strong for my mom because she's beyond stressed already due to some other issues, but at the same time I'm so terrified because it was this time in 2007 when my other grandma went in to the hospital for something seemingly routine and she never came home. Surgery landed her in a hospital bed until she passed away in March. I can't shake the feeling of that whole situation happening all over again.
Staying as positive as I can and praying my way through it, though.
Just wanted to update you all and say thanks, again!!

Thank you so much!
I really have no idea at this point. Their hospitals are an absolute joke and often take weeks to get any type of results back. Back in 2003, when my dad was diagnosed with cancer, it took nearly a month for them to have reports back. They act like people have all the time in the world.
If it does turn out to be anything, my mom will take her out of state for treatment. Duke saved my mom's life and she has all the trust in the world in the doctors there, so that's already a possibility. Not trying to put the cart before the horse; hopefully it's absolutely nothing and turns out benign, but I can't help but already start thinking ahead.

more T&P coming. hopefully the Dr. will be able to give a bit more detail tomorrow. And hopefully it isn't as serious as they are making it out to be right now.
Keep us updated.

That sucks so much. So they have laid out a scenario where it can be bad enough to need to be addressed with more extensive surgery orrrrrr they will take all the time in the world getting labs back. Real Nice.
I hope it is nothing and easily treatable. Regardless it sounds like your mom is in pretty good control of things.
