More Thoughts & Prayers Please ..and

We took Jason to the Dr.s on friday for a bad cough & cold and he has a bronchial cough which stems from RSV...he is getting better with that but while I was there I expressed my concerns that one side of his face (mostly his Jaw line) is uneven and he favors one side more than the other.   Feeling his face it is indented somewhat on his right side jaw line more than the left.

His Dr saw my concern but says he's only seen this before in babies that are missing muscles and in babies with eyes uneven.  This is not Jasons case as his eyes are fine and all his muscles that are supposed to be there are so he wants us to see a pediactric plastic Surgeon.  Dr. Helena Taylor specifically.   Does anyone have any knowledge of her ?   He says they'll most likely do an CT scan on his head.  The thought of knocking him out and the radiation scares the crap out of me, not to mention how they will go about fixing this.  right now it's not an extreme difference but of course was noticable to us.  They can't even see us until 3/8 and no chance of a cancellation list this month because they have "clinics"

He also recommended physical therapy since we can't be seen right away to get his neck muscles working in case he has some scar tissue or muscle spasms.

  • Oh goodness! Hopefully it is just a muscle issue easily fixed with PT! Keep us posted! He will be in my thoughts!
  • I'm so sorry - how rough - but awesome that you found it early.  I haven't heard of that dr. but I'll definitely be thinking of you and your family.   Keep us posted!!
  • Definitely all good thoughts coming your way. Poor little guy!! hope they can figure out what it is (I know the radiation is scary but sometimes necessary) and they can correct it so he'll be good as new. Keeping you all in my thoughts.

  • Sending good thoughts out to you~ One word of advice on the CT scan if you need to go thru one for him - go to Hasbro or RIH and ask the department if they have methods in place to reduce the amount of radiation your child will receive based on his size/age to limit his risks during exposure.  I work directly with the chief radiologist at RIH and I know that they are working on improving their radiation protection procedures for infants and children undergoing these scans because of the potential for complications later in life from having these scans as babies.
