There is a new-ish girl at work (she started in November) and I feel as though I'm about at a breaking point with her. She is really nice and close to my age, and I want to be friendly with her but her social skills make me want to rip my hair out. She constantly comes in my office and just SITS like expecting me to entertain her or something. If I continue typing or staring at my computer (I know that's rude, but really, I don't know what to say??) then she still will. not. leave. Hellloo isn't it obvious that I'm busy? I'm trying so hard not be rude but it is so frustrating... I love it when people visit me and I often have coworkers in here talking, but the difference is they actually add to the conversation and they leave when it's over.
Vent over. If anyone has any advice how to deal with this I'd appreciate it, but mostly I just needed to get that out. AGHH!
Re: Co-worker vent
I like it! Good suggestion, I agree!

Do you have any co-workers who sit by you who can see what's going on... you can have them call you and when the phone rings, you say, sorry, I have to take this call.
Or, "hey, can we catch up later? I have something I need to get done before lunch". Maybe if you do that enough times she'll get the hint.
TTC #1 since 4/10, Dx: MFI IVF planned for April/May
This is a good idea, or could you say well I better get back to work, I have a bunch of things to do and I don't want to get you or I in trouble.
Good luck!!

That sucks! And so annoying! My boss/co-worker sometimes stands over my shoulder and reads what I am typing (e-mail, letter, here, actual work..sometimes). I usually just stop what I'm doing and yell at him about it. Haha. My boss is Jeff's uncle, so we have a totally different atmosphere here. But he will also just stand in front of my desk and want to talk. I just keep typing and every once in a while look up in a way that tells him I am busy and prefer not to chit-chat. : )
I actually liked the sneezing idea. Start coughing and sneezing a lot when she is there...then spray Lysol in the air. So, either the germs or Lysol haze should drive her away..hahaha!
This!!! And it works :-))
I actually have the same situation with our afternoon mail delivery guy. He is super nice and over friendly, and ever since he learned that I'm a huge sports fan, he's been coming to my office and just chilling! I have a guest chair on the opposite side of my desk - and like your girl,he pulls it out, flops in it, takes off his hat and just gets all comfy. Continuing to type, not making eye contact...all of those more subtle hints go right over his head...lol
So, whenever he comes to deliver the mail, I have our receptionist wait 3 minutes after he has gone back to the offices, and she calls me. I say, "just a moment, please", and turn to him and say "I have to take this"...works every time!!
