So I went to the US Figure Skating thing on Friday night and yesterday afternoon. Friday night I went with my friend and we had a very good time.
Friday night, though, we were sitting in a section with a nice group of people--one of the skaters families was there. There was this one lady, though, that was acting out of sorts. We all thought she was drunk off her butt, because she was just clapping at inappropriate times, yelling strange things at strange times. At one point in the night they did a presentation honoring the 1961 US Figure Skating National Team that was being inducted into the skating hall of fame. That team all tragically died when their plane crashed on the way to the World Championship that year. One of my friends' relatives (her mom's Uncle) was one of those athletes--and my friends' mom and boyfriend were staying with us to enjoy the festivities.
When they started the tribute to the 1961 team, the lady in our section started up yelling again and making noise at terrible times. At one point, she yelled "No one cares!" Up I stood immediately, and I responded "Would you PLEASE leave?!". She was about 5-6 rows above me so I had to say it pretty loudly--loud enough for everyone in our section to hear me. She cursed at me, but the usher saw the interaction and came down to escort her away (he had come down a few times previously to ask her to quite down). Everyone in the section clapped as she left.
My friend was a little horrified/shocked at my reaction at first--and then she said "go Derk--you said what everyone else was thinking!"
Re: Don't mess with Derky...
GO DERK!
I probably would have said something way more inappropriate or brash to her so I applaud you for your restraint and success at achieving the goal!
