Present for a one-year old?
My good friend's first baby turns 1 this weekend. I have no clue what to get him! I assume they have all the essentials but is there anything that you guys with you had or had known about for the baby's second year of life? Honestly, I have no clue what to get besides clothes or a check for a 529 account.
Re: Present for a one-year old?
I like the book idea! I'm kinda kicking myself for not thinking of that myself.
Now, any recommendations? NY Times does a book review for children's books right?
I agree with PP about books. Children don't get enough books as presents nowadays. I'd get 2 or 3 (since they're cheap). If you must do the toy thing, you can always buy a book with a stuffed toy that is one of the characters (like Pat the Bunny, or a Dr. Seuss book, or Little Bear, or something).
I also really like blocks (at 1yr, Duplo blocks are good) and basic clothes like onesies, bibs, etc. are always needed.
Tea Time for Lulu
Nevermind!!
You can also hit up the discount tables at B&N or Borders. That is usually what I do when looking for new books for E. That is how I found Brave Teddy. And actually, I think the name is "Teddy is Brave."
OOOPS!

Books are good (board books WITHOUT flaps or things the kid can tear off)
IF you want a toy, this is a BIG hit around these parts
Lil? Zoomers? Spinnin? Sounds Speedway?
We have this one around these parts too.
Along with ALL the little zoomers toys...they were popular at Christmas with my family I suppose, lol.
Books are a great idea....clothes are always appreciated to, just be sure to ask what size they need (not what size he is wearing this exact moment).
My little guy loves anything to do with shapes or building...we have the megablocks and lots of shape sorter types of toys and those are his favorites (along with his push toys). (btw...H will be one year in 17 days!)
For toys I'd do a push toy or something similar. Or books.
If you're looking to stay away from toys, I'd go with either a check, or a gift certificate for an activity. Like a membership to the Zoo, Childrens museum, Music together classes, swim lessions etc. Then it would be something fun that they could do together.
Thanks for all the suggestions!
I'm going to swing by the bookstore today and see what they have. And then order online if need be.
My kid is 16 months old and her favorite right now is Good night Moon, She loves anything with dogs, She loves Are You My Mother?, the three little PIgs, and Peter Rabbit. Oh and What's wrong Little Pookie is another favorite.
She loves playdough, finger paints (the kind you can eat) but those are messy, blocks (haba is nice), balls, I just visited a school today and she enjoyed pushing a stroller around with her stuffed animal in it. She like her Barney DVDs although I hate getting kids DVDs, she LOVES her Rafi CDs and her Music Together CDs too. Another cute idea is a pail and shovel for the playground sand box. Or something musical, she has a little drum that she plays with too. the Melissa and Doug Puzzles are awesome too, shapes, animals, etc. They have a bunch for that age group.
