Hi ladies - quick birth story

Thank you for all of your kind words on the birth of baby Owen!

We are in our room alone right now.  Owen is having some trouble with his breathing/eating so he's in the nursery under an oxygen hood receiving a mist therapy to help clear him up.

We had a super fast delivery and it was soooo much better than my 1st induction.  We got to the hospital at 7am, and started the pitocin at around 8am.  I was 3 cm dilated and 70% effaced when I got to the hospital.  At around 10am the covering Ob broke my water at the request of my Ob.  At this point I was 4 cm.   After they broke my water I started to feel the contractions but before that I felt nothing, and they were very irregular, even on the pit. She allowed me to get my epidural shortly after this....which I'm so glad I did because if I had waited I would not have  had time to get one.  So - I got the epi around 11 am, and at 11:50 my doc came over from the office to check me.  I was 7 cm and 90% effaced at this point, but feeling nothing - gotta love epidurals!!!!!  She told me she had to go to the OR to do a surgery at 1pm and would come check me before she went in again.  So I relaxed and played on my phone, dozed off a little.  The nurse was watching the heart rate and it was doing some funky things she didn't like so she went to grab my doc who was just about to go into surgery....she came in and checked me, told me I was 10 cm and the baby was starting to come into the birth canal and it was time to push.  So she told me when to push on my next contraction (which I couldn't feel) and the head came out.  2 more pushes and baby Owen was here! It was very very fast, and I could not believe how pain free this birth was.  It was such a great experience, as compared to my delivery with Domenic where I pushed for over an hour and a half! I wasn't even tired after this delivery!  Owen was born at 1:33 pm weighing 8 lbs 4.7 oz, and was 20 inches long. I did end up with a second degree tear and stitches, which I was hoping to avoid this time around...oh well! Its part of the job I guess.  I'm feeling pretty good today, just having some intense cramping and a bit sore.

Domenic is having some issues adjusting to his new baby brother, but I'm sure once we get home and he is used to him being around and mommy holding another baby, he will be ok.  He wouldn't look at me when he came into my room today, and cried every time we put the baby near him.  He did try to find his nose when we asked him to, but other than that, he had zero interest.

I'm dying to go home!!!! We get to leave tomorrow mid morning sometime. I posted a few pics on fb, and I'll try to post one in my siggy when we get home.  Thanks again for all your support!

Re: Hi ladies - quick birth story

  • Congratulations!  I am so happy you had an easy labor and delivery. I hope everything gets straightened out with his breathing and eating quickly.  It is good that they are already doing treatment.  I am sure you want him with you, but you might as well take advantage of this quiet time... bet you can't remember the last time you had that.

Yay for easy second births!  I was fearful of the pushing with my second after 2 1/2 hours of pushing the first time.  Only took a few pushes the second time and hunting down a doctor to catch her it was so fast.  Second children seem to be SOOOOO much easier to deliver.

  • Awww!! Sounds a lot like my delivery with Lily, induction and all! So glad it was easy on you! I'm sure Dom will adjust just fine when you guys are home and settling in! And will surely love having a playmate when Baby Owen is a little bigger! Hope he does well tonight and can't wait to see more pics when you get home!
  • Congrats, glad it was easy (as much as it can be) and pain free....hopefully you'll mend up soon from the tears..
  • I got induced with both my kids too and it is funny how much easier the second baby was! I also pushed for 1.5 hours with Christian and maybe 10 minutes with Gianna. Give Dom some time. This is such a weird thing..seeing your mommy hold another baby and then trying to wrap his little mid around the fact that Owen is here to stay. I still can't believe how little Dom is and now there is Owen...You are a strong woman!

  • yay!!!!!! I'm a bit jealous of your story for sure - epidurals don't work on me (only work on my right leg, I feel EVERYTHING else - both times!)!! Sounds similar to my second induction too. I went through 2 inductions with an epidural that didn't do much at all for me, I felt everything (well, except my right foot hehe).

Glad that Owen is getting his breathing treatments, hopefully he's all better this morning!

Dominic will adjust. It's really hard, especially so young, because he just can't understand it all. Ben was 20 months old when Madeleine was born and he had his moments of jealousy too. But it was mainly confined to when I was nursing her b/c I couldn't just put her down. it was better after a few weeks!

    I hope you heal quickly!
