Re: home heartache?

I am so feeling like this! I am fed up with our rental. Its in a good safe area but the house is older and needs some repairs and fixing up. Of course, we are not about to put time and money into a rental so we just live with the super old showerheads and mint green living room walls. It will probably be another year or so before we can buy though. Even with wedding money I think we need to save some more and we have a lot to learn about home buying. There is so much lingo I don't understand.
H purchased a house right before we met and I have recently moved in. While I like our little house, there's a lot more that goes into owning than renting.
For example, three weeks ago I came home to an alarm going off. Thinking that I needed to replace the fire alarm batteries, I did so - no luck. Thinking that I needed to replace the carbon monoxide alarm batteries, I did so - no luck. Well, long story short, we had carbon monoxide in the house and I had to call the fire department. We had to evacuate for 2 days (H got his wisdom teeth removed the morning after the alarm going off so we lived in my parents) until I could get a furnace guy to come. What a hot mess! We have since moved back in, but are looking to re-do the bathroom here shortly (buh bye gold glitter countertop) and need to re-wire the whole house because it was not done to code.
P.S. When you do buy, make sure you get a good inspection! One of my friends didn't have a good one and a pipe burst in their basement, flooding everything! And in our house they never realized that there were hot outlets in the wall and ceilings just covered up by stuff!
I know EXACTLY what you mean. When we moved to KS, we originally planned to get an FHA loan and buy a house....but instead we're living in a family friend's basement. It's a huge difference. And now we might not even buy for awhile because we are considering in the future moving to Minnesota to live by and work with hubby's sister and her family. And we'd like to live other places...Chicago...Colorado...NYC...SoCal.... so there's no point in buying til we want to settle down.
But I miss living in my own home.
