Re: vacation of 2k11

  • sounds like some good places coming def want to go to vegas sometime!! Have fun!!!- maybe a little weekend trip for his bday- down to like nj beaches or like baltimore or dc, any where he has said he wanted to go?... Dan and I are going to a long weekend at the beach in may, and then over the summer we do a family vacation with his family prob north carolina too

  • Jenn, let me know about your Vegas trip.  We're looking at going there Jan 2012 (for my 30th birthday) but we've never been there and have no idea what hotels to check out.  Meghan gave me a couple suggestions so I'll check those out too.  As far as trips for this year, we're trying to take a cruise out of NYC to Bermuda for the 1st week of June BUTTTTT I woke up this morning to the roof leaking in the kitchen so that may be in the crapper.  If we don't go on a cruise, then I'm going to try to persuade DH to go to Hilton Head.

    Married 6/10/09 in Bermuda.
  • I have been spending my 2 snow days working on research for our numerous trips this year, which include:

Pittsburgh, Washington DC, Ireland, Las Vegas (I'll be going in August and I've been once before, so I'd be happy to help people out with anything I can with that) and Disney World.  I can't wait to actually get traveling!!!

  • I went to Vegas for my brother's 21st birthday.  We stayed at the Monte Carlo when we went to Vegas, it was nice!  We stayed in strip view rooms...it's not like you're hanging out in the room a lot, but it just adds to the whole experience.  It's not a party hotel really, so if you're looking for more of the party-ish hotels I think that Manadalay Bay, Palms, Hard Rock have more club type action.

We also saw a few Cirque de Soleil shows when we were there (O and Ka), both great!  We walked where we could, there's also a train that runs along the back of the strip (if I remember right), that you can take.  Our hotel had a map of that in the guidebook and I think you can score one online.  We took a car service from the airport to the hotel and it was cheap.  There's plenty of cabs/car services at the airport to take.

Disney--I've been there ooodles of times (born and raised in FL).  My best tip, everyone always starts at Dumbo, the carousel, etc...we always start at the opposite end and work our way back.  We usually go on the Haunted Mansion first, followed by Big Thunder Mtn or Space Mtn.  Also, try to make a reservation at a sit down place for lunch.  It's worth it to get inside and sit for a bit, relax and cool down.

We're probably headed to my family's home in GA this summer.  It's my stepson's favorite thing to do!

  • I am DYING to go to Vegas!!! Someday soon I WILL get out there!

We don't have any big exciting plans....in April we're going to the Finger Lakes in NY for a long weekend for our 1st Anniversary. In July or August we are going to the beach for the week with my family and we have another beach weekend in September with my family. We may do a few day or weekend trips in there too....DH and I like to travel :)

This is good to know!  DH really wants a good pool, but not a party atmosphere, so we've been looking at the Monte Carlo.

We actually went to Disney in November and we started with Dumbo (it was my must ride because I never went to Disney as a kid), but I'm looking forward to going for a second time and starting somewhere else, so I'll keep your starting point in mind...I've also heard starting in Adventureland is good.

  • Vegas would be a lot of fun for a 30th bday.

The Finger lakes are great -  the wine trails make for a fun day if you have a DD or do one of the limo tours.   Hiking back Watkins Glen is really pretty.   (DH is from the area)

We leave for the Southern Caribbean in a little over a week.   Can't wait for the warm weather.

August we are going to England & Scotland - haven't planned much DH has purchased our Edinburgh Military Tattoo tickets - that is as far anything is planned.

September spending a week in Washington state and British Columbia with my parents.

Some random trips to NYS to see the MIL.   Our final family trip to St. Michaels, this one is just going make me cry the entire time we are there- especially with all of the people who will be missing.

The MIL wants to plan a cruise for over Thanksgiving - not sure if we are going to be able to go on that one.  Which has led to some questions on why we are spending a week with my family in September.   That was booked prior to her ever saying anything about the cruise.   We may have other reasons why we wouldn't be allowed on the cruise ship, but not going to jinx that one telling her she might have a grandchild on the way by then.

I love Hilton Head but I also love Sandbridge now!  I love Sandbridge because it's so secluded and nobody is there but VA beach is 20 minutes away to go to a few days if I want entertainment or something

  • Just got back from the Bahmas on a cruise.

June we are headed to the Outer Banks with 2 other couples.  We are hoping it is our last 'no kids' summer vacation.  We'll see.

Probably just go to Jersey Shore for a week in July.  We were hoping to do Dominican or St. Lucia, but DH feels guilty using to much vacation.

My brother is getting married in August, so party there for a few days.

Also considering a trip to Myrtle Beach for Columbus Day weekend.

As for the PP, you can go on a cruise ship up to 6 months pregnant or until your doctor says so, 'cause the cruise would never know how far along you are.  We just went on one and when we booked, thought we might be at that stage, but with no such luck.  We did get the travel insurance, just in case.

Oh, and been to Vegas twice.  We stayed at the Flamingo two years ago, and it is definitely a cheesy hotel, but that is where the wedding was.  We literally walked the entire strip.  We started at one end on one side of the street and came back the other side of the street and stopped in every hotel to check out the themes.  They are amazing.  We were exhausted, but we got some great pictures and saw so many things!

  • DH and I are going to Vegas in June/July. DH is going there for a conference for work and then I am meeting him there the last day of his conference.  We are looking at staying at Harrah's.  It looked clean and got good reviews!  :)  Plus it is centrally located!

DH and I were thinking of doing a fun trip in April for our 1st Anniversary, but we're starting to think about just staying at the Lancaster Marriott (where we had our reception) for a few nights and get massages, and swim in their pool and soak in the hot tub.  Spend our money on things we don't normally do around home.  But this isn't a definite yet!  :)

Thanks - I knew the time frame, cruise line we normally go on,  it's the have not entered the 24th week.   Cruising It is one of the few vacations DH will jump at so we've been on quite a few.  Part of it also is - do I really want to be stuck on a boat for 9 days with the in-laws (all of them).   So pregnancy might be a great reason to skip the trip.

I'm more worried about how I'm going to feel, than anything.   If things go as planned (which who knows if they will) We are hoping for a end of the year early next year due date.   Still a little early to tell at the moment, but the goalie has been pulled.  (yeah I'm telling the internet vs anyone in real life so we don't get bugged about it)   We'll go if things don't work out, but I'm not booking it until the fall anyway.   The change in price drop policy it seems to be better to hold off and wait for the sales after the final payment date.
