I'll be there in March. My mom and I will be there for three nights, and then she's leaving and DH is joining me for another three nights. I'm open to all suggestions as to attractions, restaurants, tips, etc. We do have a reason to be in the city every day, so we won't be able to leave for day trips.
Re: Been to San Francisco?
We did the Angel Island/Alcatraz tour while we were there. I could take or leave Alcatraz but found the history behind Angel Island fascinating.
And definitely find the tiniest hole in the wall you can in Chinatown and eat there. You won't be sorry!
I love San Fran! It is so much different than other major US cities. You definitely need to drive across the Golden Gate Bridge - I have been to San Fran quite a few times and have yet to actually see the bridge despite driving over it - it has always been soooo foggy (but fun nonetheless). I also really loved our tour of Alcatraz. I am a total Alcatraz junky so I was way impressed with the whole tour - the "clink" of the cells closing - gave me chills. Definitely take a ride on a trolley. Fisherman's Wharf is one of the most visited places in the United States but to be honest....I just didn't get what makes it so great......
I truly can't remember places to eat - I usually stayed in SF but worked in Vallejo so I did most of my eating there. As far as hotels, I have stayed at the Fairmont once (very old, very cool) and the Ritz Carlton several times.
Thanks, ladies. We're staying in the Nob Hill/Union Square area.
