another snow day

and class already cancelled for tonight.... i'm not complaining about work but class being cancelled kind of sucks b/c i'm totally a "in-class" learner. my driveway is all ice and will be such a mess later with the rain that's coming this afternoon.

Re: another snow day

  • i hate this weather and this week. Bennett has pneumonia, I'm sick with a cold, H has had a horrible week at work and then this storm comes through and we lost power last night at about 8pm. we camped out at my dads who, thankfully, still has power. i feel bad for my mom...her apt lost power and her car is stuck in the garage. :(

seriuosly...i'm over it. oh..and the antibiotic they gave bennett gives him diarrhea. that was fun.

  • I wish I got snow days.  It has to be incredibly bad and usually they only do a late start or an early closing.  No actual full snow days.  The University I work for prides themselves on being hardasses about snow.  Heck it was -16 this morning on my way in to work, but they couldn't even give us a late start to avoid frostbite that can set in within 5 minutes.  It takes longer than 5 minutes for me to walk across campus to get to and from my car.

This sounds like Alaska...I had two ice days in college, and it's because literally the entire city was an ice rink, with *feet* of ice on the ground. Then I had two snow days in all of high school, and I think we got about 4 feet in a matter of a few hours. I took my driver's license test two days later. I love all the snow days in MD! Haha.

I didn't get a single snow day through out all my time in school  in Colorado.  Not 1...even in College we didn't get any.  Now all of a sudden there are tons of them in my old school district.  My nieces and nephews have been out the past 3 days because of the cold.   They never would have done that when I was in school.

Not fair! I was surprised we got some when we did...We never did in elementary or jr. high. But I think they went back to their "old ways" because this year, before Thanksgiving, is the first time the school district called off school since I was in school. Guess it depends on the superintendent and complaining parents. But at least in AK and I'm assuming CO, the roads and plows are a little more prepared...it's a joke here.

  • Since the recession and all the budget cuts I very rarely see plows or salt trucks out.  At least not on my commute and I only take 2 interstates and a main highway...The roads have been pretty bad and it frequently takes me at least 2 hours to get to and from work.  Two weeks ago it took me 4 hours to get home.  It was awful.  The University just doesn't care.

omg, that is awful!  I hope you get home safely tonight!

My college didn't cancel today either, despite all schools being closed.  We didn't get nearly as much as they thought though.

  • dh is working from home again. our neighborhood is not too bad but he works 45 minutes north of here... his office has no power and everything is an ice rink.
  • Its been a craptastic week for us also.  Rowan is sick and has a high fever, i dont feel great and this weather is absolutely miserable.  Our house is a wreck and i feel like i go in circles cleaning it and all i want to do is go outside and it to be atleast 50 or above.  All i want is for spring to get here and for it to get here FAST!

Amanda- sorry to hear about bennett.. Having sick babies might be one of the worse things EVER!
