What would you cook???

So my Aunt turns 50 on Sunday and I told my Uncle that I would help him out with a birthday party! Sooooo long story short I'm having a party at my (cozy little ) house with about 35-40 people...yikes! My mom's family is huge! This is just my aunts, uncles and first cousins! Anyway, I am cookng lunch BUT I don't know what would be good to cook! My aunt (for some strange reason) doesn't like pasta! So I was thinking about some sort of chicken dish! She doesn't like seafood and she loves steak but is having that the night before at her in-laws! Any ideas for a menu would be helpful and much appreciated!!  Thanks Ladies!

  • For a crowd like that I'd do something easy to prepare in bulk, like pulled pork barbecue sandwiches or maybe a make-your-own taco or baked potato bar.  (If it was summer, I'd suggest grilling chicken and beef kebabs, but you'd have to be hard core to grill outside this time of year!)

  • A staple in my family is sausages and peppers (and onions)-- easy, quick, and people can put them in rolls like a sandwich or eat them on their own...

  • What about some kind of chicken/rice dish. I have a casserole recipe for one, just let me know if you are interested in it, since your aunt is picky. It's super easy to make and all you need is chicken, wild long grain rice and cream of mushroom soup. Make a few of them up and serve it with bread, & salad. You could prep it all in the morning so that you are not running all over and cooking when your guests arrive!

I agree.  You could do a couple of different types of sandwiches or sliders.  I also really like the idea of a make-your-own bar.  You can offer all sorts of toppings but don't have to go to the work of assembling everything for 35-40 people yourself!

  • Casseroles, dips, and anything in a crock pot would be my picks.

  • I would also go for something in the crockpot.  Chili or pulled pork would work well.

  • I like the idea of the make-your-own sandwiches with a pot of soup and a pot of chili.  With a meal like that you can get away with appetizers as side dishes, without having to do too much...ex: chips and guacamole can be self-serve on the side with a sandwich.

For dessert, do ice cream sundaes and cupcakes...again, self-serve style food.

  • Thanks Ladies! Those are some great ideas....I really appreciate it! The least I have to do with 2 kids and MH under foot the better Stick out tongue   Especially since it's super bowl sunday as well!!
  • definitely something in the crockpot!  I'm making meatballs for meatball subs for dinner tonight.  Get a bag of Italian Meatballs from Sam's Club.  Through it in the crockpot for 6-8 hours with a chopped onion, garlic, italian seasoning.  Serve on toasted roll with sliced fresh mozzarella.  I can't wait for dinner!
