Professional Counselor Recs
Any recs for a counselor around the Kenwood area? Just someone to go to, talk through things, help better myself and understand some feelings?? Do you recommend this at all? I have never been to one and am not sure if I want to - just trying to figure some things out and understand myself better. I am more wondering how I can improve versus having a specific problem.
Any info would be helpful - thank you all! Hope you all have power tonight - our lights keep flickering!
Re: Professional Counselor Recs
I don't know any around Kenwood, but would suggest searching by using your health insurance.
I very much reccommend seeing a counselor if you feel the need to. Perhaps I'm a bit biased, as I'm currently studying to become a professional counselor. But I've been to counselors in my life, and I find the best part is being able to vent to someone who is completely impartial. They won't judge anything you have to say, and they won't be shocked, as they hear these things all day. They are trained to be good, constructive listeners, and to offer support. I do reccommend it. At least give it a try.
Hope this helps!
Thank you so much! I feel a little silly because I don't have a specific problem I need help with but I feel - exactly like you said - that I need to vent to someone who is not in my life on a regular basis. I will look through insurance and see who they cover.
Thanks for your advice!
See if your company has an EAP plan - that's where a company will cover the cost of x amount of sessions with a counselor at no cost to you. If they do, they should have a number you can call and they'll be able to hook you up with a counselor in the area.
As someone who is a counselor (I work with kids/families) and as a former client, yes, I recommend it. A person doesn't need to be "crazy" or mentally ill or completely out of touch with reality to benefit from counseling. I think everyone could use someone objective to bounce things off of from time to time. And God knows we could all use some self-improvement and sometimes we get stuck in that process.
PPI is right by the Kenwood mall and they are Christian based.
