Holy Snow Batman...

I am supposed to be leaving for work in 15 minutes...we are open today. There is no way my car can even get out of my driveway. I just called my boss and she said come in when it's "safe". Why aren't we closed today???

Re: Holy Snow Batman...

  • Well if it's never safe, it's never safe :D The H just spent an hour snowblowing our driveway so he could go to work. Our driveway is two car lengths long. There's A LOT of snow out there!

  • Yeah, there is over a foot of snow in my driveway and I live in a condo community that is supposed to plow. I also am not convinced that the private road to get out of my neighborhood has been plowed. I can't get out to work even if I wanted to.
  • Good news, we just closed!
  • Well, I can't make it off our street.   We tried, but got stuck just backing out of the driveway (even with 4WD).  We ended up digging my car out enough to get back in the driveway.  We had to dig our neighbor's truck out because he got stuck, too.  Unless our road gets plowed (unlikely being a small cul-d-sac), I'm not going anywhere.  My work is still open.  I just called and our receptionist answered, so at least one person is there.

We've been up since 5:30 snowblowing and shoveling, too.  I'm tired.

  • UGH!  We are open today.  Makes me so mad.

    Angry

I got stuck in my daycare's road today.  She had to help me shovel, and then push me out.

  • Sad So frustrating that in these conditions they're making people venture out. If the legislature and major universities can close businesses should follow suit.
  • I totally agree that all nonessential businesses should just close. My H and I both decided to stay home, at least for most of the day. I have some work I can do at home. I can't imagine that businesses will generate enough sales to even make it worth the overhead of staying open.
  • I let the dogs out this morning and there was literally 3 feet of snow in front of our door.  I thought it was like that on our whole driveway.  Apparently, a huge snow drift.  DH just plowed the driveway so as soon as the roads are clear, I'll be going to work.  They "generously" moved our start time from 9am to 10am.

We will technically make $0 today, because UPS and Fed Ex and all other shipping companies aren't running, so if nothing ships out, nothing gets invoiced.  If nothing gets invoiced, our sales will be $0.  STUPID.

  • How are the roads in the Heights, Molly? I think your work and te location I would have gone to are close. I was legitimately worried that I wouldn't be able to make it down Laketon in my small car.

I don't know.  I went from North Muskegon to Norton Shores using Seaway, then I hopped onto 31 to Sherman.  I think Laketon looked plowed when I drove by though.

The only really bad roads are the side roads.  Most main roads are plowed.

  • Ugghh...I'm sititng at my computer so I don't get pissed trying to watch Brian get out of the driveway. Seriously take a FREAKING paid day off. He doesn't want to use one. As I explained to him if he gets in an accident, he will be using more than one paid day off if he is seriously injured. So freakin stubborn.
  • Hi!  Both my office and my husband's offices are closed today for the first time that we've worked there (almost 6 years).  My husband was shocked that his office closed because he's in manufacturing and they never close.

Tigers, I'm surprised you're open.  I know MJ was talking about closing today too, so it wasn't just our firm.

  • My boss called at 7 a.m. to tell me to stay home. Kind of defeats the purpose of a snow day! Especially when she knew I wasn't really planning to come in just for 3 hours anyway. I tried to go back to sleep for a while but wasn't 100% successful.

  • Ok, Brian stayed home.

I still have to work from home, so it really isn't a snow day for me. If I didn't have so much to do, I would take PTO.

I think I am going to go snuggle with my girls for a few hours before their nap time and then I can work some more.

  • We woke up to about 9" on the driveway not sure what the yard has but I'm thinking about 12".

I'm not 100% sure if we will try to go to the office later or not. We really don't have anything schedule with clients today, just back end work that needs to be done. DH likes this type of snow, it's fun for him to drive in. I wanted to have a snowball fight but he said no.

Yes. Thankfully she's so cute and has more pleasant moments than tantrums!
