Hypothetical situation:

You are preparing to leave your place of employment. You really are not on good terms with your manager and actually now hate your place of employment with the fire of a 1,001 burning suns. You really would like to go out blaze of glory style, but you won't. So, how would you give your notice?

Seriously, be professional about this. Do it the traditional way, by resigning face to face and giving HR your resignation letter.

Even though you hate it there, leave on the best terms possible. I have had two jobs now that are interconnected with a job I did not like. Thank goodness I left on good terms or else A: I may not have gotten this job which I like and B: it would make my current job exponentially harder

I had to do this a couple of months ago. Luckily I got along with the HR rep and I gave him an official letter giving notice and my last day. He spoke to my boss for me, and then my boss gave me the silent treatment until the day I left. It was kind of nice.

I agree, face to face is best (and I am one to use email for practically everything). In the past I have always typed up the letter and brought it with me to give to my boss.

For everyone who said face to face: would you do this even if your boss's office was not at all private? At my place of employment, no one has an office except the President, so everyone in nearby cubes would hear the conversation.

This. When the day comes that I leave my current job, I can.not.wait. to see my supervisor's face when I drop that bomb. They'll never see it coming, and it's going to be awesome, ha!!!
