For those of you who don't get snow

Zach and I - and the rest of Lafayette, IN - survived the "snowpocalypse" of 2011. It was supposed to be historical, with snowfall mixing with ice to give us a grand total of 15-20 inches. Grocery stores all over the city are pretty much picked through (or that's what I've seen from various statuses on Facebook), schools have been canceled for 2 days now, and even good ol' Purdue shut down 2 days in a row for the 4th time in 30 years (or so goes the legend). Because the weather people were freaking everyone out with their outrageous predictions of what we would get, those living in the country kicked on generators, filled bathtubs with water, and my grandfather packed his suitcase and headed to my parents to wait out the imminent death with them. {If you haven't noticed yet, this post is dripping with sarcasm.}

In all seriousness, we did get about 6 inches of snow and an inch of sleet/ice, which is fun to try and step on - you don't even hardly crunch the surface of the ice to get near the fluffy snow underneath. It's like performing Jesus's miracle of walking on water, but bundled a little more warmly and doing it on snow. The following photos (and video - when I mention Caitlin, she's my 15 year old cousin that lives in sunny California and whines when it gets to be 45 degrees) are of our yard, and a few in our house, and yes, I captioned them so you know what you're looking at. Enjoy, and feel free to come over and take some snow home - Lord knows we've got plenty.

Because the video sucks up battery life, I could only get so many pictures. I'll try for more later on different batteries. http://s929.photobucket.com/albums/ad132/CS2B/Snowpocolypse%202011/

  • I like this blog post (below) as an example of how people should have reacted to the snow storm.  I love how people use weather as an excuse to go shopping or ask for a handout from the gov't.  Just get over it, shovel your driveway like everyone else, and stfu.

    I do think it's rude of the dude to compare the gov't assistance to hurricane katrina though.  Those people did need help.
