Anybody else in the middle of "snowpocalypse 2011"?

So our local and national news affectionately  taken to calling this gigantic Midwestern blizzard "snowpocalypse" and I am right in the middle of it!

I live in Central Illinois, where the worst of the storm is currently passing through.  The school I teach at, about an hour north of where I live, was one of the last schools to close today at 6:15 am, and I'm wondering if we'll be closed tomorrow.  If not, I'll probably have to take a personal day because there's NO way I'm getting out of town tomorrow.  We've already got 8 inches of snow, and it's blowing like crazy.  You can't even tell what's coming down and what's blowing.  Even State Farm closed, and they NEVER close, so it's bad out.  Good news is, though, that I got our entryway painted today!

Anybody else being hit by this storm?

Re: Anybody else in the middle of "snowpocalypse 2011"?

  • We just moved to MI from Peoria, IL.  We are on the west side of the state, by the lake.  They say we could get up to 16 inches between tonight and tomorrow.  My DH works 2nd shift so I am hoping that it isn't too bad when he has to drive home tonight.  It only takes him about 10 minutes on a normal day.  I've been making sure to keep an eye on it.

  • I'm in Chicago.  We seem to be in the heart of it.  It is soooo windy outside.  It took me 40 minutes to drive 1.5 miles home from work.  I brought work home with me, so I don't think I will be going in tomorrow.  It's hard to tell how much snow we actually have so far because it is blowing so much.

They say we are still supposed to get another 15" or so over night!

  • so i guess living in NJ is like always living in Chicago? you guys have the worst of the storm now but the weekend after Christmas, we had 18 inches, 2 weeks later we had another 10 inches, and just last week, we had another 15 inches.... oh and last night our version of snowpocalypse was an ice storm

we have used up 4 snow days for school already, and i'm so over this winter... we will have snow on the ground until may!

  • Well it's my third snow day in a row, so I'm officially teaching through the first week of June (yippee, doubly so since my school doesn't have air).  The first snow day was kinda nice, but now I'm over it; it's been like a mini winter break.  Although I got my entryway painted, which I thought wasn't going to happen until spring break, I'm kind of getting stir crazy.  15 inches of snow completely blocked our driveway yesterday, and all of the drifts put a drift over 6 feet tall in our yard!
