Does anyone know if...

I can use neosporin on my cat?

She has a tiny chunk I guess is the best word missing from her face. Its not a scratch but like a little spot where her hair and skin are missing, nothing really deep. She was with my mom for 3 weeks while DH and I were on our honeymoon and she got it there. My mom said she got it a few days before we got back and it's been over a week now. It doesn't seem to be bothering her at all and it doesn't look infected it just every time it appears to be healing up she rubs up against something or scratches it again. I was thinking if I could put some on it then it might heal up faster and before she can re-open it. We are thinking about buying her a cone to wear until it is better but that will make me feel really bad seeing her in it.

TIA!

  • I wouldn't. I would just wash the affected area with warm soapy (antibacterial) soap. If it gets worse/doens't heal, I would take her to the vet and they will prescribe her an antibiotic.

  • You can use something like this... I've used it on our cats in the past.

But if it starts to get worse or ooze you should def take the cat to see the vet.

  • Our vets always recommend neosporin for our cats or dog when they have minor wounds.  You don't want to put too much, and keep an eye on her so she doesn't immediately lick it all off, but my animals tend to not even notice it most of the time.  GL!

  • Thanks everybody! I will check out the stuff at our local petsmart and hopefully they will carry it. It's not oozing or anything like that or I would have taken her to the vet ASAP. I was ready to take her in when I got her back from my mom but DH had to calm me down haha

  • My sister's cat was acting funny-Not eating etc. and they saw a little bump on his face-It turned out to be a hole, from what they don't know but it was very infected and matted. They used hydrogen peroxide to clean it and within a few days it was scabbed over and he was back to normal.
  • My mom use to use a triple antibiotic oinment on her cat all the time, a good friend of hers was a vet and recomended it. I don't believe it was neosporin and it might have been for cats (since they lick everything, I'd be concerned about something that isn't meant for cats). Hope your kitty is feeling better soon :(
Life is a roller coaster, enjoy it!
