I didn't see your post about my finger tattoo until now... I already have my foot done, had it since 2007, and I was warned then about the potential problems and risks with healing, etc. The place I had my foot done (in Lake George coincidentally) actually doesn't do them anymore because of the potential for them to look bad.
I don't think your artist was crazy, more worried about his/her rep probably. If it looks like sh!t no one blames the person who has it for not taking care of it, they blame the artist. I know a lot of places won't do them just b/c of the risk.
If my foot hadn't healed as well as it did, I would've never done my finger, and my guy wouldn't have done it either. The reasons I got were b/c the skin is so thin and there's so little muscle and fat under it, a lot of the time it can literally flake right off when it scabs. I am neurotic about taking care of my tats though, and and had no problems
(a friend of my mom got his done when he heard about mine and it looks like crapola. He never used the ointment, never used lotion and it literally scabbed right off. He also wore his wedding ring right after which caused it to smear.)
Mine looks great, it's been 2 months and it looks better then the day I got it. It's not "perfect" b/c it's so tiny, but I expected that. And my foot still looks amazing, the color has held up well, and noting looks faded.
Word of warning if you do go through with it... it hurts lol. My foot burned like a mother. And thank goodness my hand only took 10 mins or I would've needed a breather.
Re: Eeva
Thanks for your reply
What you said makes lots of sense. It being my very first tattoo probably made the guy that much more worried that I wouldn't take care of it.
I expect it would hurt like a mother to get done on the bottom of your foot. I want it done on the soft part also (inner arch). When I was a kid, my dad used to draw spiders there all the time and tell me I had stepped on them. I always thought I should get one of his spiders permanently put there. Maybe when he passes away someday I'll do it. I'll think on it more, though. Thanks!
I thought you meant the top! Holy crap will that hurt!!! I don't see why you couldn't get it done, esp in the arch since that doesn't make as much contact with the ground... I would do some research on footwear first, just to be sure you can avoid rubbing the first few days. Like Old Navy flip flops might work, really flat, or a week you're off work so you can avoid shoes as much as possible.
I like your idea, it sounds really cute and sentimental
) If you have trouble finding an artist who is comfortable doing it, you might want to tell them you won't hold them liable for any issues you may have with it after.
If it helps, I didn't wear my wedding rings for just about 2 weeks until it completely healed.
I still can't imagine how that would feel... I have the most ticklish feet ever, so I can only imagine what it would look like when finished lol.
