Help me get to SF

I have an apt at salon baobao in SF on friday at 10am. I have never been there, I'm redeeming a groupon deal but I'm excited. Last month when I drove to SF, I was in a fender bender. Dh had to drive to sf to get me. I'm not the best driver (daytime is usually ok) but I get flustered in new areas, my anxiety about getting lost or being late doesn't help this!

Here is the address: 2041 Market St

Does that mean I can take bart?

  • OK. You are going to take BART to Civic Center. Get off at Civic Center and then get on the MUNI. Take Outbound MUNI to Church Street. Church Street will drop you off at Church and Market. Go to the street level, and walk on Market towards Dolores Street. That should get you there.

    Lighthouse State Beach, Santa Cruz.

  • You can but be prepared for a little bit of a hike (if I remember correctly you'll be pulling a pretty good hill.  Mission's the closest.)

I think you could also take BART to Civic Center and then take MUNI up Market from there.

  • Meggy did MUCH better at that than I did!  Woohoo!
  • Let's just say I've done it a few times!

yikes lol. I 've never taken Muni!  Now, according to the bart website (which I discovered after posting this), I can take the mission street exit, then turn right on Dolores St (walk .3 miles), turn left on 16th st (.4 miles), then right on mission. Will this not work? It's lots of walking but I expect that in SF

  • That will work, but like I said, if I recall correctly, it's not just a walk, it's a climb!
  • I agree with Mrs. Boom Boom. You can and I've done it. This way is much easier and will drop you off a block from the hair stylist.

  • Would it be an option for you to take a taxi from the BART station to the salon so you don't have to worry about the MUNI part? I'm not sure how much that would cost but it doesn't sound like it's a very far drive so hopefully not much. If I was having anxiety about the bus, that's what I'd do.

This is what I would do. When I first moved into the city--when I was still very uncomfortable, I would take cabs more often and learn how the driver got places. I am still not great at the public transit in SF.

It's not the bus, so don't get confused about that because there are Muni buses. It's the underground MUNI that you'd take from BART. You would pick it up in the same station as BART, just on a different floor. It would be a lot quicker than a bus and definitely cheaper than a taxi.

You could also take the historic streetcars on the surface if the underground freaks you out.  They're actually a lot of fun.
