**What's awesome about your library?**

So I'm on my local library (and on my regional) library board and we are brainstorming some programming and service ideas to try for the new year...

so tell me about your library...what you love ...what you hate...what you wish you had.

If you dont go to your library- telling me why would be helpful too...

TIA!

  • I do love the Saratoga library. I don't go often now, but I do in the summer. Parking is an issue. I like when they have lectures...yeah nerd alert, I know.

  • I honestly don't go to the physical library as often as I would like, but I do love the fact that I can borrow audiobooks and ebooks online.

Some of the programs that my local library has that I think are great and would like to try sometime are the lunchtime book club (bring your lunch and discuss a book) and some of the local history presentations (i.e. local historic mansions, notable people from our area, etc.)

  • I adore our library!  We live down the street from one of the tinier ones in the city but it is just the right size for us.  They have story time for children, teen book talks, adult book talks, after school homework help for the kids who go to the school next door, Wednesday movie afternoons (for kids), they bring in magicians/puppets/zoomobile/etc during school breaks so kids have somewhere to go and something to do, there is a knitting club that meets every Monday evening and a lady that does music presentations for kids once a month.  I use the interlibrary loan a ton to get books that our little library doesn't have room for- can't live without it!

  • For someone who grew up working in a library, I am ashamed to say I never go to one anymore.  I just don't feel the need to.  I buy a few books now and again to read (more so when I do book club) but overall I usually get my stuff on Amazon or bookstores.  I am horrible about returning things ontime... When I worked at the library, they could zap away my late fees, and it was a good thing!  Oy.

My parents really like some of the children's programs at our home library.  I think they take my niece there for little programs during the day when they babysit.  I am sure once our kiddo is old enough to do stuff, we'll want those services and the books too.

When I was in school libraries were obviously key for getting work done.  I just think that now because I work so much, I don't get enough time to read and use a library.

  • When I was younger I would go to the library all the time and get books.  I don't go now because I just get books that I want at work or at a bookstore or even from friends.  I think kid programs are great and I would probably go more often if I had kids to bring to those programs.
  • I'm not sure about programs my library offers.  However, I love that they have self-serve checkout.  I go to one particular branch for this feature.  It makes it so quick and easy.

  • Ours has storytime/open play for all ages.  The one we go to now is once a week, for about 45 minutes for up to 18 months old.  She reads, sing songs, has books, toys and musical instruments out and blows a ton of bubbles at the end, which the kids love.  They do activities for all ages which is so nice.  Someday I want to look into the adult programs too, as I know that they have a lot.  The one we go to is Dewitt Community Library.
