WWYD? Vday Skating Date

DH and I are very predictable. Exchange cards, go out to a medium fancy restaurant. Repeat the following year. I take no issue with this, as it works for us and heck I'll take any date I can get! This year though, the thought popped into my head as I've been researching restaurants and not a single one has stuck out to me . . . why not go ice skating with DH?

Three years ago he bought me my own pair of skates for a birthday present and I've used them once. I haven't even had to try to prove my point that they were a bad present lol.

So, fingers crossed it isn't bitterly cold and we can just go down to our local rink. What next? What would you do? Dinner somewhere? Low key? At home? What are you thoughts?

Re: WWYD? Vday Skating Date

  • Do you have a fireplace?  How about a living room picnic in front of the fireplace?  I've always wanted to do that.  :-)

eta:  After skating MUST involve hot chocolate in my opinion.  I recommend Williams Sonoma's hot chocolate.  And I would suggest some Bailey's in it but I suppose that's not a good idea for you mama!

  • We always make a nice dinner at home, it seems sometimes more ramtic, cheaper and peaceful.

Great idea, but unfortunately not. We'd probably have more kids if we did . . . Wink

Well thank you! Only 12 more days until we know the numbers of the house, so far it's only the pets and I representing the female side, but I wouldn't mind if we had all boys lol.

I'm all about a new house and a fireplace. Maybe in 10 years. If that's the case we'd have to be safe though, I don't want any "side effects" lol.

Haha.  I'm surrounded by boys...it's not so bad. :-)

  • I think that sounds like a great idea for a v-day date!  I would go out to dinner.  You guys are going to have 2 little ones around soon and you will need all the just you time you can get!

  • I'd have dinner waiting at home (maybe a roast or soup/stew in the Crock-Pot?) for apres-skating. Going out on V-Day is always disappointing with terrible service and mediocre food, IMO.

Great point! We usually don't do the day of either!

  • hot chocolate date?

make your own smores at home curled up in front of a movie?

go to a movie at a theater? I assume most parents don't get to go to movies at theaters much? We saw No Strings Attached a few days ago..it was really cute. You get to see Ashton Kutcher's hiney Wink

  • If it's cold, you could go skating at The Depot in Downtown Minneapolis.
  • If this is you Valentine's Day (Observed) - not actually 2/14 - then I say go out to dinner. Like pp mentioned, you will have 2 little ones soon and going out to eat will likely be much more difficult.

You're lucky, my DH is predictable in that I can expect no card and a "we're not doing gifts for each other, right?" the week of Vday. Smile

As a side note, skating would be a really fun double date. Like if you were friends with another couple and one of them maybe used to be a figure skater... just sayin' Wink

I was also going to recommend this. Maybe do skating at the Depot and then a restaurant in NE or Downtown? If you're looking for delicious, a little bit quaint and not so expensive for restaurants try Pizza Nea or Ginger Hop in NE. For something a little more "special occasion" try the Sample Room.
