As I've mentioned before, my mother is an Evangelical Christian. ?Somehow she manages to talk about God and Jesus all of the time. ?Don't get me wrong, I'm a Christian, but I get seriously annoyed with the extents to which she takes it. ?
For example: "Mom, it's really nice out today." Her response, "Isn't God wonderful?" ?Or, the thing I'm actually annoyed at for the moment: I post pictures from Auschwitz on my blog and she responds that "everyone needs Jesus".
My normal response to her in these cases is to roll my eyes, but an eye roll doesn't really translate when you're not in the line of site of the intended recipient. ?
Re: NER: small mother vent
Your mom's response to Auschwitz is "everyone needs Jesus"?!
W. T. F. !?
You need to call our your mother. Her response is not annoying but offensive and appalling. And you should delete her comment as well.
It was in response to a comment I made about human depravity, no to the?Holocaust itself. ?It was just really out of left field.?
EDIT: I'm fairly certain that she was saying that the Nazis needed Jesus.?
BM- that is the exact reason I encourage her not to join facebook and will delete my account if she ever does. ?
Ugh. ?I have no advice. ?That sucks. ?You could just delete all her comments and not address it. ?If she questions you about it, tell her you'll talk about it when she stops telling Jews that Jesus would save them from genocide.
It reminds me of a woman who, when I was good naturedly bitching about the chaos that the air force was subjecting us to, told us to take comfort because "we're all just passing through." ?WTF? ?That's not comfort! ?Tell me that I shouldn't worry about a hassle now because we're all going to die? ?Whatever. ?
Still, her comments are appalling. Sorry. They are. There is no excuse.
I agree. ?I'm just agitated because the easiest way for me to (possibly) end all comments is to just tell her that I'm going through Catholic confirmation classes, but that is not a conversation that I am ready to have with her. ?This is really pushing me towards being ready to talk to her about it though.?
I just read your edit. If this is her explanation, you should tell your mom that most Nazi's were Christian.
I'm sorry, Katie! I saw that post on your blog because I posted right after it. I thought it was a little misplaced.
It's hard with parents. Right now, I'm actually wringing my hands over an e-mail I responded to with mine. My mom believes everything she reads or sees on the internet. There was a product review for those little Domo creatures at Target, saying that the chocolate may contain melamine. There is nothing to suggest it DOES contain it, and obviously Target would pull it if it did. Can you imagine the lawsuit if a child ate melamine in the US? Also, this assumes no one has already eaten this product. If it's been on the shelf since September, people have already eaten it, and I've heard of no random deaths. It hurts her that I don't just swallow what she tells me. I am a total skeptic about most things, and I'm not just going to buy something that my mother who I literally just taught how to copy and paste on the computer randomly saw on the internet.
My mother also thinks vaccines may cause autism. Don't get me started.
Sorry, didn't mean to thread jack. I just feel your pain, and know it's hard to call your mom on her shenanigans. I hope you are able to either endure it or say something politely. Good luck with the Catholic classes, too!
