QOTD-Thursday

Do you anticipate getting money back on your tax return? What will you be doing with it?

Re: QOTD-Thursday

  • I'm super excited, I filed last night and we'll be getting back a decent amount. Enought to completely pay off one credit card and make a good dent on another Big Smile

  • Yes, I'll get a little bit back.  I might take a tiny tiny portion of it and get something for me, but the rest of it is going to go towards my CC.

  • Yes we will get a good amount back.  Some will be going towards current bills as DH is still home with his broken foot Crying which equals no paycheck.  The rest will be going toward baby savings plan for my extended maternity leave.

  • We probably won't get very much back if at all, since we have to start paying back the home credit this year.

  • We have owed money ever since we got married. I don't expect this year to be any different. If we do get some back it will go toward our credit card.

  • We had to do estimated taxes this year because of my job, and I have a sneaking suspicion we're going to owe this year.

  • I finished them last night although I can't file til the 14h because we itemized. We are getting back more than I expected. I should change my withholding so we can get more in our paychecks this year and less back next time.  The money will go to replace what we just spent on the septic tank and other plumbing repairs. Which will give us a little breathing room again and maybe we will be able to afford to put the room back together that they tore apart to fix all our pipes.

Why are you paying it back, if I may ask?

  • I'm hoping and thinking we'll get back several hundred, we'll use it to buy a crib and other nursery purchases, then the rest for vacation in may.

  • We are getting back a nice return. It will be going to savings until we get back estimates for building a garage. If we don't build the garage, hello new living room furniture.
  • I expect to get some back. We will use 100% on it to pay the credit card. We think that with our tax return and bonuses, we should be able to have it paid off in just a few months!

  • Yes, we should get money back.  Whatever we get will be going straight to savings.
  • I was really worried that we were going to owe money. At my current job I'm an independant contractor so I don't pay taxes until the end of the year and we cashed in a good chunk of money from a random retirement fund the DH had that wasn't really doing anything to pay off a cc. After all of that however it looks like we'll still get a nice chunk back. Most of it will go to my car fund. The rest will go towards a vacation.

  • We should be getting a decent chunk of change back. We're going to try to itemize though (business expenses and such), so we won't be filing yet. But I haven't actually sat down and done anything. We've just thrown all the paperwork in one big file.

With the exception of a few hundred going to catch up our IRA's for 2010, it will all be going to CC's.

  • I assume we will only because we have every other year and nothing much has changed.  DH I am sure will want to spend it while I would want to save it or pay off bills.

  • We got our return back this week and it was nice. It paid for most of our new floors.

  • We used some to buy a TV and the rest is going towards our credit cards.
  • Yes, we'll be getting a decent amount back (I know we shouldn't be giving Uncle Sam an interest-free loan but oh well).  All of it will go into savings and eventually be used for our next trip or downpayment on a house.

Why are you paying it back, if I may ask?

Because we're super-duper awesomely lucky, and the senate decided that people who bought in (I think) Jan-June 1 of 2008 get a 7500 credit that has to be repaid over 15 years (so basically an interest-free loan)... If you bought June 1 or later, you got 8K and don't have to pay it back. We closed May 25th. haha

  • We are supposed to get our return next week some time.

Probably saving a good chunk of it and then putting the rest aside to take a trip to Disney World at some point this year.

  • We're getting some back.  We need a new mattress so some will be going to that.  The rest is going into savings.
  • I hope we get a decent return! We haven't decided exactly what we are going to do with it yet, but it will be put to good use.

  • We'll probably get money back, but won't know until I actually do it. Since we itemize, I'm procrastinating until closer to the 14th.
  • We have to pay a couple thousand, ouch :(
