non-clicky POLL: fave Austin food trailer

Not living in Austin I feel like I haven't even begun to explore the food trailers yet.  What/where is your favorite "mobile culinary establishment"?

Re: non-clicky POLL: fave Austin food trailer

  • Best Wurst.

I haven't been to many of the new ones since we moved back a few months ago. I've heard good things about the Crepe place.

  • Like I said, I haven't been to that many.  A few sno-cone places mostly.  But I went to Gourdough's on S. Lamar again this past weekend and looooved it.  We went this past summer and between the two of us, got 3 orders of doughnuts/holes and were totally regretting that decision afterward.  This time DH and I split one doughnut (Sara's Joy... coconut creme filling, fudge icing, and shredded coconut on top) and it was perfect.  The doughnuts are made to order so they come out nice and crispy on the outside, like a funnel cake, and the flavor is awesome.  They're open until 3am on the weekends and have parking and outdoor seating.  Awesome drunk/hangover food.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the crepe place.  The one by Romeo's?  They're yummy too, but they take a while on a weekend morning.

  • DH loves Best Wurst too. I haven't eaten at too many of the trailers myself.

  • Oooo, I love food trailers!  My fave would probably have to be Torchys Tacos, even though they have now kind of expanded out of the food trailer thing.  Some other ones that I really like are Sushi A Go Go on Barton Springs (kinda scary to eat sushi from a food trailer but it is really good!), The Mighty Cone on SoCo (they serve food from Hudsons on the Bend wrapped up in cones), The Jalopy on 15th (this one is pretty new, gourmet rotisserie chicken sandwiches), and Flip Happy Crepes (so good, but unbelievably long waits).

I have been wanting to try Gourdoughs so glad to see a good review for it.  I have also been wanting to try Odd Duck Farm to Trailer.  I think its in the same area as Gourdoughs and supposed to be really unique.  Cant wait for some warmer weather to go hit some of these up!

  • Me So Hungry is really good! They call themselves Asian fusion, but IIRC, it's Cuban and Thai inspired food.  It's awesome late at night! :)
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • Another vote for Jalopy. I also like Peached Tortilla.

Me too!  I do love Mighty Cone, and Turf N' Surf Po' Boys--although, I haven't been to either since the summer.  There's a new "cart court" on MLK near campus, and some of the guys I work with rave about a Cajun place over there.  They say it's the best gumbo they've ever had.

  • I'm not big on food trailers, but I have tried a few.

There's a new chinese food trailer in the court on Barton Springs- I really like that one. They use good, authentic ingredients, not cheap crap.  Also, last week I had El Naranjo on Rainey Street and the shredded chicken tacos were incredible.

I love Torchys Tacos, and even more-so now that they have buildings.  Not a fan of Hey Cupcake, though.
