  • Ha....I threw a "sprinkle" type of shower (only pampering type of gifts for my sister, not for baby) for my sister (you guys know we don't do actual showers in my family- nothing for baby until baby arrives)...and it was at my house. And it cost me probably more than $250 for FOOD. Let alone decor and favors. Oy Oy Oy.

That girl needs some edumacation from Ms. Emily Post.

  • My best friend went to a baby shower for a friend at a local restaurant last year.  Arrived to discover that not only were they NOT in a private room, but that they were expected to buy their own meal.  No heads up, no nothing.  To me, that's not a baby shower but a get-together of friends.

There are plenty of ways to have a very nice shower without spending a whole bunch of money or asking any of your guests to pay.  You could have it at your home with a couple party trays and cake from Sam's Club.  I'd much rather have a very simple shower then one where I knew people had to pay to attend.

  • We had a shower for a friend at work. I spend over $100 for minimal decorations, plates, etc, and food.

  • My favorite part is: it shouldn't cost $500; it's not a wedding!

  • She's probably 15 and clueless. I don't buy that they're in college.
  • I will tell you that Boone, the town she's having the shower at, is klassy all in itself. I don't know any Boonies that I would call high class. It's 10 minutes from Iowa State and they have a community college campus there that I took a class at one summer. People watching at the Boone Wal-Mart is about as entertaining as the Atlanta airport (which is #2 on my list after the Iowa State Fair).

I had to comment on the post. Sorry. There weren't nearly enough people from Iowa piping up and something had to be said that we aren't all gift-grubbing, Facebook-inviting, pay-your-own-way shower whores.

I'd like to see that on a T-shirt.

  • Oh my my! That is something else! I would much rather have the simplest of showers with minimal food and decorations than have my friends show up and have to pay their way. How rude is that?! I wouldn't know what to think if I showed up and then found out I was expected to pay my way.... I'd probably think it was a joke at first.

I could Cafepress it but no one would get it!!

Check out this site for t-shirts with jokes you won't get about Iowa:
