Let's talk Valentine's Day...

my first client just no-showed, which is especially awesome because I skipped an important meeting because I already had her scheuled.  So now it's too late to make it to the meeting and I have no client.  Now I'm bored.

What are your plans for V-day?

Celebrating on V-day or the weekend before?

Dining in or going out?  Where are you going or what are you making?

You and your H do gifts?  Any ideas for what you're getting him?

Re: Let's talk Valentine's Day...

  • We'll probably go out to dinner the weekend before, and then on the day we'll exchange gifts. I plan to go silly this year - I'm going to get the biggest freakin' heart shaped box of chocolates I can find, along with the silliest stuffed animal.
  • What are your plans for V-day?  Not 100% sure yet.

Celebrating on V-day or the weekend before? Depends - BIL's 21st birthday is the 12th and celebrating that is more important this year...plans for that haven't been set in stone yet.  It may involve a weekend at Mohegan Sun, if that's the case, I think we'll sneak away from the birthday celebration for a nice dinner.

Dining in or going out?  Where are you going or what are you making? I think we decided we'd cook dinner - menu is TBD. However, I did request that we have candles. haha

You and your H do gifts?  Any ideas for what you're getting him? We decided that we weren't going to do gifts this year...but he's in desperate need of a new GPS, so I may surprise him - depends on the budget.

  • Sorry to hear that:(

We usually do a small gift and go to dinner.

I just brought this up to Josh last night and said, "Can we please do NOTHING this year?". Lol. I'm just tired of constantly having something to do and since our birthdays are both in January I'm sorta gifted-out between that and Christmas.

I think we'll just stay in and cook and open up a nice bottle of wine. We'll probaly do it the day-of even though it's a Monday.

  • We miraculously are both not working on the 14th thanks to a class I have to take. We'll probably go out to dinner, or maybe go out to lunch. Place will be determined later. We don't usually do gifts for Valentine's Day.

Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
  • We're celebrating the Saturday before, because I have to work late on V-day (boo).

We're staying in and cooking dinner (big surprise).  I'm making homemade pasta with sausage and spicy tomato sauce,  and a nice salad for dinner.  Might make some more tomato goat cheese tarts, I still have some leftover homemade puff pastry in the freezer

and I think I'm going to try my hand at profiteroles with vanilla bean ice cream for dessert.

And lots and lots of vino, of course.

We don't really do gifts for V-day, he'll probably get me flowers (usually does) and I usually just get him a bunch of chocolate for his candy jar at work.  And cards.  We're both suckers for cards.  I got him 2 different ones (one for Saturday and one for actual v-day) and I wouldn't be surprised if he did the same.

  • Oh...I might get Josh some unique (height/shape/design) wine glasses. I have a few random ones and he's been using them lately because he likes them. Lol. They were super cheap so I may try to find more as a little surprise.
  • We'll go out for dinner that Monday somewhere we can get reservations. We've tossed around Grille 29 (where we had our RD), but not sure yet. I saw some wiskey and tobacco shave cremes in Real Simple magazine via etsy. That's the best gift idea I've got so far. I also thought about burning him a themed cd, because I've never done that before.
  • I don't think we will be doing much. Feb is always such a busy month for us. Both of our nieces have b-days, my grandfather's b-day and the seasonal b-day party ( too many for seperate so they get lumped together). Those all each are a seperate weekend so it gets pretty exhausting. Last year we went to our fav. restaurant but I'm not sure I would enjoy it as much since I can't drink (not even a glass of wine at this point).

  • V-day is also my last day at my hellish job, so we're going out to celebrate.

Sat/Sun we'll be in CT for a meeting I have on Sunday, so at some point we'll have a small family party at grandma's house.

I want to go out for sushi, but our other thought is the tapas place. Somewhere good, definitely, but not anything super fancy.

    I knit him socks:image
I told him I want a light setup for food photography (I want to spruce up my blog while I'm unemployed), but so far I don't think he's decided. I told him not to get me expensive flowers- a bouquet from the grocery store is fine. I'm pretty sure he won't get me candy, he'll know I'll bake a lot so we won't need more sweets.

  • If anyone wants wine ideas, here is our wedding wine

  • Plans- none really. Celebrating- who knows. Kev is playing in a pond hockey tournament the whole weekend. I think we're gonna do dinner the Fri before. We usually do a wine tasting benefit for our local children's hospital but obv aren't going this year. In or out- probably out bc we have some gift cards to use. Gifts- none. We never do. Kev will most likely get flowers and that's all. I don't need anything though.
Baby, you've got the sort of eyes that tell me tales...

  • Plans- non and there probably won't be.

We don't really celebrate, and Kirk will be OOT celebrating his dad's 60th with his parents and his brother the weekend before, so I am sure we're not doing anything.

We will probably eat in, because it is a Monday.

Gifts- nothing, we don't really celebrate.

  • We are going to celebrate that Sat since H works late during the week.

We are going to eat out at Ruth's Chris Steak House..can't wait, we used some of our cc points to get a gift card.

As far as gifts go, H already got me a new coach bag and wallet but I can't have it until v-day. I am getting him a case and car charger for his new iphone (he pre-ordered it this morning from verizon) Im not going as big on his gift for vday because tomorrow is his bday so I got him more gifts for that instead.

  • Not sure what we're doing, if anything. B starts his new job that day, and honestly, we don't do it up as big since our early dating days. We haven't exchanged gifts since the second year together, so I don't expect to do anything this year.

That being said, we will probably have dinner at home, just something different. Last year, he made rack of lamb with a cranberry glaze. Yum. But since he'll be in the throes of new job stress, that means I'll be cooking, so turkey burgers it is! Or maybe I can convince him to go to this italian place in Waltham we have a semi-GC to. My issue with dining out on holidays like Vday and Mother's Day is that they jack up the prices and limit the menu. That always annoys me.

I hope he doesn't get me flowers. Too predictable and they die. I'd rather he write a poem or song or something.

  • No plans right now.  We'll probably make dinner on home on the actual day, maybe make pizza together or something.  We are planning a night/weekend away once it stops snowing, so we'll probably wait and spend money on that.  We do have some PF Changs gift cards that I'm dying to use, but we never go out on the actual day (for reasons MCD mentioned).

No gifts...cards, definitely.  Maybe H will get flowers.  But we don't go all out.

  • We don't go out.  But tonight H starts his new job working the night shift.  By the time Vday rolls around he won't be working Mondays, so he'll have been home all day by the time I get home.

This means all I want for Vday is a nice clean house with flowers on the table and some Chinese take out.  That would be so lovely to come home to.  :)

  • We usually don't go out for VDay.  I don't like crowds, restaurants are packed and overpriced...  As a matter of fact, I think he's working all night that night anyway, so I'll probably go by my parents' and have dinner there.  As far as gifts, we haven't discussed it, but we'll probably do little things.  I'm happy with a card and flowers.  Le sigh.
  • We just made our reservations at PF Chang's last night!  Chris has never been, I want to go again, and it's not too far from home where we need to worry about getting to our reservations on time after picking up Sami, etc.

We're going out the night of.

Sometimes we do gifts.  I have a card for him at least.  No idea what to get him other than that...
