Opinion: Baby Shower Favors

I'm hosting my SIL's baby shower this weekend and I had a terrible response as far as RSVPs go.  There could be anywhere between 10 and 35 ladies there.  I'm fine with food -- I love cooking and I have helpers so we'll just make enough for the 35 and have leftovers if less people come.

My dilemma is favors.  I don't want to spend a lot of $ and have 20 leftover if there's a small turn out.  The theme is ocean and I just came across a recipe for sea salt/thyme/rosemary popcorn.  I have plenty of mason jars from my wedding... what do you think about doing jars of sea salt and herb popcorn with a thank you tag of some sort for the favors?  I always struggle with favors so honest feedback is appreciated.  Smile

  • I think that sounds delightful.  :)

  • Sounds yummy....I'd love some!
My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!
  • Agreed!  Sounds delish!

ummmm - are shower favors typical?  I'm throwing a shower for my sister on the 19th and hadn't thought about doing anything.  We'll have a couple prizes for some "game" type activities we're doing (decorate a onesie and the mom's fave gets a prize, person who most closely guesses mom's birth weight, and whoever can remember the most items I pull out of the diaper bag as well).  Embarrassed

  • That idea sounds great- cute, original, and it sounds tasty!
  • If you want to do favors, the popcorn sounds like a great idea.  However, IMO favors are not necessary for showers--unless, of course, it's typical in your circle.
    Matt loves Munkii!!!
  • I agree with Munkii on both counts.

Now that I'm thinking about it... I think it's about 50/50 with favors/no favors.  SO I will definitely not stress about it.  And it sounds like you all think the popcorn sounds good so I will just stick with that unless it gets to be too much (which is feeling like a possibility at this point).

    Thanks!

  • I've never gotten a "favor" for a bridal or baby shower.  I've seen prizes for winning games, but not favors for everybody who comes.  In fact, I'm hosting my sister's bridal shower this weekend and I'm not having favors.  I'm serving lunch and there are 3 games with a prize for each winner.  That's it. :)

I think you're going above and beyond, so they should be thankful no matter what!
