What are your Valentine's Day plans?

Anybody doing anything fun?

Re: What are your Valentine's Day plans?

  • Nothing fun for us. We are working really hard to save as much as possible... So we will probably exchange cards and eat at home together.
  • It depends on the weather.  We like to ride our bikes to Central Market, about 5mi, pick up fresh fish (on ice, of course) and veggies , then go home and have an awesome, relaxing dinner.

We usually exchange cards and he gets me chocolate covered strawberries.

As far as the date, DH works on Valentines Day (24 hrs, obv), but with his schedule dates are irrelevant anyways.  We do what we can when we have time to make it work.

  • We SHOULD also be staying home to save money.  However, what we actually are doing is going to dinner on the 13th.  (DH doesn't have a clue what saving $ means, and it would break his heart for me to tell him we can't go to dinner for Valentine's Day).

We're sort of making the 13th instead of the 14th a tradition.  The year we got engaged, he didn't bother to try to get Valentine's dinner reservations until about 3 days before.   Of course he couldn't get any.  So, we went on the 13th instead, and when we got home, he proposed.  Secretly, I was kind of glad - I though getting engaged on V day was kind of cheesy.  I mean, we're in our 30's for god's sake.  So from here on out I think we're sticking to the 13th.  It also helps avoid all of the madness that is the actual day.  We're not doing gifts, just cards.  DH does usually send flowers, against my wishes.  While they're beautiful and I love them, I KNOW how much they cost and it blows my mind.  Silly boy.

  • We don't ever go out to eat on V Day, just b/c I don't think it is worth it to pay more and fight the crowds.   We have not even talked about what we are doing this year but we also like to go to Central Market and buy something we wouldn't normally have with some new wine or beer and cook at home.

We also don't exchange gifts but do cards.  I also prefer DH not buy flowers b/c they are so freakin expensive for VDay, just get me some random flowers some other time of year!  I guess I'm not much of a romantic but Valentines Day just isn't a big deal to me.

  • I think the last few years we've ordered Chinese and watched a movie or something at home.  Nothing fancy.

  • We typically cook at home, and watch movies. DH will be working till 9 that night, so might just have takeout ready for him when he gets home.

  • We're going to a wedding at Horseshoe Bay the following weekend so we just decided to stay the whole weekend and use it as a mini vacay.  We aren't doing any kind of presents or anything bc the hotel and wedding is pretty costly. I'm sooo looking forward to it!

  • haha...we joke that we randomly went to eat at Taco Bell last year on V-day so that was our romantic outing...

I don't technically boycott V-day...maybe a card or something that he needs?

I worked at Olive Garden one year on Valentine's and I prepped enough dessert plates to feed all of our Nesties...it was annoying. I refuse to do the all out V-day...don't get me flowers, or expensive chocolates or take me to dinner on that day. If you want to get me flowers- do it at a random time because you want to, not because a holiday tells you to. Or if you do want to do flowers on that day- go to HEB and get something there that isn't over priced!

Even with Proflowers or some of the online companies- you still have to arrange them and fix them yourself. Save your money and get someone at HEB or reasonably priced to do it.

Guess I'm contradicting myself here...I just don't believe in the price gouging that happens.

  • I totally agree- the price gouging is ridiculous, but when he brings me those Edible Arrangements chocolate strawberries, I don't care what he paid for them.  :)
  • We will most likely stay home and cook together then watch a movie or something.
