DH and I just upgraded our phones today and I was curious if anyone else has a Droid and what are your "must have" apps.
Re: any droid users?
I have a Droid X. Love it but still learning
I have mine through Verizon, and they have a thing where you can make an appointment for a "help class" in using it! I sat with a guy for 30 minutes
All of these are free...
Facebook (get the one BY Facebook not some other company)
Ringdroid Advanced..I haven't worked with it yet but the guy I sat with recommended it. You download your songs onto the phone. Then use this ap to make your own ringtones. you can make it in any 30 seconds of the song! It's more work, but you get what you want and it's free...
and because I sing in an acapella group:
Two octave touch: Piano keys
Mobile Metronome: obvious
Good to know on the class thing!! They didn't tell us that and I may have to check on it. I feel like I'm sure my parents do when they call me and ask me how to do stuff on their computer.
One thing I noticed today is that the battery doesn't last very long. Any tips on how to keep that up so I don't charge it every night? I'm sure part of it is that it does a heck of a lot more than my old phone does and that requires some juice, but I was surprised how fast it is dropping.
DH has had his for over a year now and I just got mine in December. We're both addicted to them!
My must-have apps are...
Facebook
Twitter
Yahoo! E-Mail / Gmail
Shazam (detects artists/titles of songs)
MyFitnessPal (calorie counter with a barcode scanner)
FxCamera (camera with cool effects settings)
Pandora (awesome for listening to in the shower haha)
Jorte (calendar wigit)
Handscent SMS (just a different view for texting)
For games, I like...
Jewels
Word Up
Word Drop
Super Sudoku (this version is better than others, I think)
Angry Birds
Slice It
X Construct (DH likes this one)
Alchemy (DH likes this one)
Let us know if you find your own must-have apps!
The battery won't last as long on the Droid as other non-smart-phones, but Advanced Task Killer helps. Verizon put it on there for me, but I think it's in the Market. Put it as one of the icons on your main screen and you just touch it every time you put it down - it "kills" all of the apps that are running and it helps save battery. You can also set it to automatically "kill" apps every 30 minutes or hour or however often you want.
DH said he noticed a huge difference when he got this. I've had it the whole time, so I can't comment on the difference, but I don't mind using it. I do have a charger at work though, which I never had before. I plug it in whenever I think about it.
I think you can uninstall them... I uninstalled some racing game that was just automatically on there. From your main screen, pick the menu button and then settings. Then, applications, manage applications. Pick the app and then pick "uninstall." I don't think any would just be stuck on there, but I don't know. My Twitter app has uninstall as an option from here.
For what it's worth, I never used Twitter until I got my Droid. It's fun to pass time if you're in a waiting room or stuck in traffic or something. I only follow celebrities, tv shows, and a few local restaurants/stores, I never tweet anything myself.
You actually just have to change the settings so it isn't constantly searching for a network. Mine lasts at least 2 days before having to charge it now.
I just found out about "Word Feud" this weekend and I'm hooked! It's basically Scrabble, but you play with your friends who have Droids. (They have this for iPhone too, but it only works iPhone to iPhone and this one only works Droid to Droid... I think.) I think you can play random people you don't know too, but I haven't tried that.
Anyway, it's Scrabble and you set up a game and you each just take a turn whenever you have time. I'm playing a game with my husband right now and for example, it started yesterday and he played 1st, I took my turn sometime last night during the superbowl. He took a turn this morning and I took a turn over my lunch hour... so it's a drawn out game, but you can have several games going at once. I have the game with my husband and then a game with a friend right now. I am probably going to add 2 people sometime this week when I get their usernames.
If you add it, let me know your name and we can play!
