Hardwood Floor refinishing - help please! :)
Our first level is hardwood and it needs to be refinished.
I'm looking for recommendations of companies to use (or ones to avoid) and any other suggestions or things you think it would be good to know.
We're just starting to look into this now so I know I still have lots to learn before we get this done. Thanks!

My friends' husband does this. He even has his own special eco-friendly way of refinishing for those into green.
I'll have to ask her for his contact info - he's so successful for so many years, he's never needed a website! He's top rated on Angie's list and gets all his referrals from there.
I'll PM you after she gets back to me on FB... with three kids and a busy life hopefully she gets back to me soon

Rivertown Hardwood Floors did ours for us and I would definitely use them again. They don't have a website but here's the yelp page. They worked miracles with our floor. After we closed on our house, we pulled the carpet up and discovered the previous owner's dog used the dining room as a bathroom. Over half of the dining room and some of the hall boards were stained black and other boards were missing. In the spare bedroom, it looked like someone took a knife and ran it through the floor. The floors are original to the house so we were pretty bummed thinking we'd have to rip it all out. The owner replaced the destroyed/missing boards and fixed the subfloor which was also destroyed. He refinished the entire main level and you would never know anything was replaced. It flows seamlessly. To top it off, we gave him a key to do the work while we were on our honeymoon and we came home to a perfect house. They didn't get into any of our stuff, the mess was cleaned up and we were able to bring all the furniture upstairs right away.
The only thing I would do differently, and this is just because I've become more aware of environmental toxins, is to use no-VOC finishes. I'm not sure if Rivertown offers that option.

We had a similar situation to Jenny- after we pulled up the carpeting there were so many dark stains it was crazy. We also had 3 areas where there was plywood instead of hardwood (by air vents and then a 2 ft x 2 ft square). We ended up needing about 10 patches put in. We used Tim Meyer. His company is called Hardwood by Tim Meyer. His number is 612-534-3479.
He did a great job! You can't even tell where he put the patches in. I would definitely recommend him.
my hubby knows this guy. He redid the floors at the house just before our wedding and they look 10x better than they did before.
